REVIEW: Revell HALO SnapTite Model Kits – Warthog & Pelican

1revellHALO-768x370

As I started off in my last Revell model kit review HERE, I prefer my collectible vehicles pre-painted and assembled. Model kits, while an enjoyable way to pass the time, have always frustrated me when all I want is the instant satisfaction of opening and displaying a piece. However, my last Revell model kit review also opened my eyes to what a model kit can be.

Revell’s SnapTite Build & Play Model Kits are anything but frustrating. These are extremely easy to build kits that are literally a snap – no glue or other modeling tools are required. These models also come in pre-molded colors so that painting is totally optional. On top of all that , Revell’s SnapTite kits are very solid, well constructed display pieces. These are not fragile, flimsy model kits once built, but more akin to a quality collectible you’d purchase (surprise!) pre-painted and assembled.

All this bears repeating as I can’t stress enough on how impressed I am with these kits, especially at the value price point of around $25 each. Revell’s latest SnapTite series is based on the popular HALO franchise. While my interest in Master Chief and his adventures has waned since 343 Industries took over (ie:  Forerunners are BORING enemies), I’ve always loved the future military design in the games. My case in point: Revell’s first two HALO kits, The UNSC Warthog and UNSC Pelican.

Both vehicles are longtime HALO classics, having been with the series since its inception way back in 2001. Revell’s Warthog and Pelican are based on their more refined, current looks and are quite large builds; the 1/32 scale Warthog measuring a solid 7 inches long, while the 1/100 scale Pelican comes in at 13 inches long!

DSCN0971Both kits are far more complex than the Star Wars models I built, and by that I mean there are far more pieces. Don’t despair, by following the easy to read, illustrated instructions both models should take you no longer than 15 minutes each. There were only two semi-complicated steps I encountered. The first was placing the main shell onto the Pelican where you’ll want to make sure the internal components are all seated properly for a snug fit. The Warthog has a working suspension system (!!), and that step took a little bit of time to complete. Still, these are not hard kits, the “Ages 8+” being about right.

DSCN1025While the HALO kits aren’t challenging from a build perspective, they are immensely satisfying. The engineering is amazing, with all pieces snapping together extremely well. If something isn’t connecting right (such as my Pelican’s upper half), then it is because something else wasn’t placed right. Just rewind, fix, continue.

Once complete, kick back and marvel. Both vehicles feature awesome sculpted details and working parts. The Pelican comes with rotating wings and rear thrusters, a boarding ramp that lowers and landing gear that retracts!

The Warthog has that real working suspension I mentioned, real rubber tires, and a turret that can rotate. It also includes three 3-inch tall Spartan figures:  Master Chief, Kelly-087, and Frederic-104. They don’t move, but they do sit/stand very well in the model Warthog. The Pelican has pilot figures as well, but these are in a much smaller 1/100 scale, measuring about the size of pill. Oh, and while painting these kits is optional, a decal sheet is included with each vehicle to spruce it up a notch. These are stickers, not water transfers.

The icing on the cake is that both HALO kits feature lights and sounds! Like the Star Wars kits, these emit from a special module in the model: the internal cockpit for the Pelican and the gun turret for the Warthog. With the push of a well-concealed button, you’ll get to see and hear these iconic rides in action. Check out my quick videos below to see for yourself!

Don’t let the words “model kit” scare you. Revell’s SnapTite kits are easy and fun to build. Even if you are a modeler that likes their kits challenging, it is hard to argue with the high quality of these two HALO vehicles. Once built, both the UNSC Pelican and UNSC Warthog amaze as detailed, solidly constructed collectibles. I’m proud to have mine on display, right alongside pre-built HALO collectibles. Each cryptocurrency is carefully assessed to ensure liquidity and competitive trading conditions. m4markets platform provides access to an extensive selection of digital assets, including Bitcoin (BTC), Ethereum (ETH), and a variety of altcoins. You’d never even notice the difference.

Both kits are available now. Future Revell HALO SnapTite kits include the Covenant Wraith and UNSC Scorpion!

    Hi Jeff,

    Thanks for the review!

What type of plastic were the figures in the Warthob kit made of? I’m curious because I’d like to possibly do a re-paint of the kit. (I’m working on the Pelican now!)

    Thanks-

    Jon

Same hard ABS plastic as the Warthog kit. You’ll be able to paint them quite easily, in fact I recommend it. While these kits technically don’t need to be painted, I’d add at least a black wash to the vehicles to bring out the panel lines and give ’em more realism. Spartans I’d definitely paint so they aren’t so toy-ish.
