PHOTO REVIEW: Blind Bagged Power Rangers Movie Helmet Hangers

power-rangers-aftershock

Twenty-four years. That’s how long Saban’s Power Rangers have been around. Few collectible properties can boast that kind of longevity, especially with new toys released on an annual basis. The success of the Super Sentai series is based around a surprisingly simple premise: a team of youths (usually 5) in rainbow colored armor are gifted with super powers to fight off alien invaders. There’s a lot of martial arts and morphin’ gadgets involved, and the battles usually conclude with the Power Rangers piloting their towering robotic Zords against an equally large enemy threat.

Aside from a  new visual theme to keep things fresh (Dinosaurs! Police! Space! Ninjas!) – year in and year out – the Power Rangers formula remains the same.

Young kids live for this stuff, while older fans feed off the nostalgia (and some of the Zords are pretty cool). To get the entire family involved, several big budget Power Ranger movies have been released, the newest being this year’s aptly titled Saban’s Power Rangers. And you know what that means? New Power Ranger movie toys.

Produced by PhatMojo and distributed exclusively in the U.S. via UCC Distributing, fans can now collect all the colorful helmets worn by the Power Rangers movie team. This is a blind bagged assortment with 24 helmets per counter display. While there are only five helmets to collect – Pink, Yellow, Red, Blue and Black (I wonder where green is?) –  your chances of collecting them all without getting any duplicates is that much more challenging. Word of advice: dig around. These helmets appear to be packed into the counter display box grouped by color. The first four I opened were the Yellow Power Rangers helmet. The next batch was primarily Pink. You get the picture. Dig around.

These are some really nice replicas. Each approximately 2-inch long helmet features some serious heft, the toy made of a dense and durable plastic. These aren’t cheap and hollow throwaways. Paint work is also top notch, each uniquely sculpted helmet shiny and metallic. Well, all expect the Black Ranger’s helmet. His helmet is more of a gloss coat, but it’s a minor nit. With all five collected, these helmets make for a colorful display.

DSCN5384Speaking of display, to help you show them off PhatMojo has attached a diamond shaped plastic clasp to each helmet. These helmets are too bulky for toting keys around in your pocket (is that a Power Ranger in your pocket, or are you just happy to see me?), but they’d do the job if you had a purse. The clip works especially well for hanging them from a backpack.DSCN5378Colorful and well made, PhatMojo’s Power Rangers Helmet Hangers are a fun way to collect the team’s new movie look. At around $5 a pop, they’re also very affordable. Go, go Power Rangers!
