Marvel’s movies have made me a true believer. The films have shown me that superheroes I previously had no real interest in – be it their ho-hum appearance and powers or me simply having absolutely zero geek knowledge or investment in – CAN BE cool.

Marvel’s Doctor Strange was the “a-ha” movie for me – the one where I walked in half skeptical (really, magic as a super power?) and exited the theater with the realization that Marvel could do no wrong. Doctor Strange was AMAZING.

With visuals trippy enough to make Pink Floyd envious, humor on par with Downey’s Tony Stark, and enough mystical action  to put Gandalf to shame, Marvel’s Doctor Strange made me a fan of the Sorcerer Supreme. Like his portrayal of Sherlock Holmes, Benedict Cumberbatch  IS Dr. Stephen Strange.

There has been no small shortage of Marvel merchandise lately, but Doctor Strange was noticeably light on delivering the goods. Predictably, we received some action figures, but when it came to higher-end fan service like statues and prop replicas, the scene was barren. Were retailers initially as skeptical about this movie as I was? Perhaps it was a scenario of wait and see, because now that the smoke has settled, online retailer Toynk Toys has stepped up to the plate with a key Doctor Strange collectible: the Eye of Agamotto!

Manufactured by license holder SalesOne LLC. exclusively for Toynk, this officially licensed 1:1 scale prop replica depicts the magical amulet acquired by Dr. Strange in the Marvel movie. Like Hawkeye and his bow, Tony Stark and his armor, Thor and his hammer – the Eye of Agamotto is an essential component of Doctor Strange’s costume and powers. In the movie the device played a critical plot role with its power to manipulate time.

Priced at $63.98, the Eye of Agamotto prop replica arrives in a handsome 4 ¾” wide x 4 ¾” long x 3 1/8″ high collector’s packaging. Royal blue in color, the box immediately impresses with solid construction and design. A gold foil logo of the Eye of Agamotto on the lid and “Doctor Strange” stamped on the inside make this a box you’ll surely keep around. Inside you’ll find the Eye of Agamotto prop replica safely wrapped in a foam sleeve with a Certificate of Authenticity stowed beneath. Toynk’s Eye of Agamotto prop replica necklace is limited to only 1,000 pieces.

I previously mentioned a shortage of Doctor Strange collectibles on the market. That soon changed with the film’s success; when a flux of knock-offs and fan-made replicas saw release via Etsy and eBay. Don’t be fooled by their price and appearance – these are inferior, unlicensed replicas. Toynk’s Eye of Agamatto is the real deal – a fully licensed and approved Marvel collectible… made of real metal.

Toynk’s Eye of Agamotto necklace measures 32 inches length… 36 inches total including the pendant.  The weathered pendant measures 4 inches wide x 3 inches high x 1 inch deep and is made of a hefty base metal. The eye itself is cast in a green translucent resin, while the necklace cord is made out of faux red and black leather straps wrapped around a solid rubber inner cord.

Does it light up? Sadly, no. However, for the authentic look, feel and build – it’s a feature easily overlooked. Not to mention a light-up feature would do nothing but raise the price. $60 is perfect for what you get here. Perhaps a higher-end deluxe light-up model down the road?  I can see that if fan demand called for it.

This is a replica with some weight; not only looking good, but feeling really awesome in your hand. As hefty as this replica is, it isn’t so heavy as to be uncomfortable around your neck.  In fact, I wore mine around a whole day (you know, just to feel powerful and badass like Doctor Strange) and eventually took it off without any regret, strain, or pain. It’s like wearing some seriously nerd-approved bling. Night on the town with the Eye of Agamotto? I’d do it if I was 20 years younger. Cosplay? It doesn’t get any better than this.

For a $60 officially licensed and limited edition prop replica, Toynk’s Eye of Agamotto is a rock solid investment. The value is evident right off the bat  when you open up the attractive box, unwrap and pick up the piece. It all screams quality collectible. Get yours here at Toynk.com.
