REVIEW: Rocket League Mini Pull-Back Racers

DSCN1493

What do you get when you combine soccer and racing? Rocket League! The super successful followup to Psyonix’s not-so-popular Supersonic Acrobatic Rocket-Powered Battle-Cars (that’s a mouthful!), Rocket League (much better) was first released back in 2015 and has since become a video game phenomenon . Available on practically every platform, Rocket League continues to attract players with new downloadable content, as well as earning prestige on the competitive circuit as a professional eSport (yes kiddos, you CAN make money playing video games).

With its selection of unique vehicles called Battle-Cars, Rocket League is tailor made for collectibles. Up to the task is Zag Toys with their bling bagged collection of Rocket League Mini Pull-Back Racers. Distributed in the U.S. via UCC Distributing, the series features a mixture of eight Standard and Premium Battle-Cars and four rare chase vehicles, including one super rare.

Standard Battle-Cars include the Backfire, X-Devil, Hotshot, Octane, and the Merc. Premium rides (bodies  only available by purchasing their related DLC) include the Grog, Masamune, and Dominus.  All of these Battle-Cars sport custom paint jobs (as opposed to their default silver color scheme).

Chase cars include a super shiny Blue Chrome Masamune and Gold Chrome Octane, a midnight Black Dominus, and the super rare Silver Chrome Breakout Type-SDSCN1489What’s extra neat about the chase cars is that each one includes a code for an exclusive downloadable set of ZT-17 Wheels and Cold Fusion Rocket Boost for use in the Rocket League game! Despite the Breakout S-Type being the rarest of the bunch, all four chase cars had codes for the same item. Still, not a shabby extra!

What’s extra, extra neat about every vehicle in this assortment is the awesome packaging. Each Battle-Car comes polybagged inside a plastic ball which is a replica of a Rocket League in-game ball! The large ball is actually in-scale to the cars, so using their pull-back racing feature, you can actually reenact your very own Rocket League game!DSCN1490

Collectors will be happy to know that Rocket League case packs are complete – no stray extra duplicates or incomplete sets here. Each case contains 20 blind bagged Battle-Cars. Of the 20 I opened, I received two full sets of eight core vehicles, along with one of each of the four chase cars. In fact, the first three cars I opened were chase! Good luck and happy hunting!
