“Weebles wobble, but they don’t fall down!”
Remember the Weebles? If you were a kid growing up in the 70’s, I’m sure you do. The egg-shaped toys certainly made an impression on me; their magical ability to never topple over providing hours of entertainment. Like many classic toys, the Weebles are still around, albeit they’re still aimed at small children. But why should little kids have all the fun?
Enter Zag Toys and Rockerz. Influenced by the mesmerizing technology that made Weebles great, Rockerz Wobbling Figures amp up the fun factor with actual sculpted characters from a variety of hot pop culture licenses. Distributed exclusively in the U.S. by UCC Distributing, the newest assortment of Rockerz takes on Toei Animation’s fan favorite animated fighting series, Dragon Ball Z. It’s a perfect match, with the colorful cast ready to battle sitting atop the series’ namesake, an orange Dragon Ball.
Just like the show, there are seven Dragon Balls to collect, each with a different character perched on top. The series includes (in order from one to seven stars) Super Saiyan Vegeta, Frieza Final Form, Super Siayan Gohan, Super Saiyan Goku, Perfect Cell, Super Saiyan Trunks, and Piccolo. Each figure measures approximately 3 inches tall and as we have firmly established, these things wobble but they don’t fall down!
Unlike most toys that UCC distributes, the Dragon Ball Z Rockerz (that’s a lot of ‘Z’s) are NOT blind boxed. Each counter display holds 24 DBZ Rockerz and you can see exactly what character you want to purchase. There’s plenty to go around too, which each case containing three complete sets of seven, with three random character extras to spare.
Everything old is new again. Some of that is pure nostalgia; companies know that retro sells. The other half is simply recognizing a brilliant gimmick when you see one. Roly-poly toy technology might be decades old, but that doesn’t make it any less enjoyable today. Polish that tech up with some slick sculpts and fresh licenses and you have yourself a recipe for success.
