    NYTF16: Quantum Mechanix

Boldly Go With Cool Sci-Fi Collectibles...

One of the companies coming out with really cool collectibles, replicas, and figures that we were excited to check in with at New York Toy Fair 2016 was Quantum Mechanix, and we were absolutely not disappointed by what we saw there. First up in their display cases was a variety of fun keychains and pins from fan favorite properties like new Star Trek Magnetic Pins featuring updated emblems from the upcoming movie with antiqued look that were made from the actual props! Joining those this year will be a Star Trek 50th Anniversary magnetic pin and Star Trek Friendship Necklace. Other keychains on display included Star Wars fobs and a sweet Lord of the Rings One Ring that will have a black light glow script effect! Firely fans can look forward to a new Leather Journal, pet products, and more plushes like the Kaylee Bear.

Quantum Mechanix is well known for its spaceship replicas, and a central display case held some very cool small-scale items that immediately caught our attention. Currently available is the Batwing Metal Replica ($60), and joining that lineup is a metal Enterprise coming Q3. Meanwhile, Toy Fair was the debut of a new line of PVC vehicles and spaceships! In the range of $20-$25, these will include entries from Star Trek and Marvel, with the possibility of more licenses later. On display were the Milano from Guardians of the Galaxy, the S.H.I.E.L.D. Globe Master, Star Trek The Original Series Enterprise, and the Enteprise Refit. Each item in this line will come with a very nice display base that fits an included metal challenge coin! The first should be available this summer.

Quantum Mechanix had yet another display case filled with figures in various shapes and sizes. There were small PVC statues of the Mini Masters line ($25 MRSP) featuring Supernatural and Lootcrate will have exclusive Firefly items. The large 12 inch Master Series figures are progressing nicely. Firefly’s Captain Malcolm looked great, and we got to see prototypes for Star Trek TOS Kirk and Spock. They’re still in work (issues like the scale of the hands will be fixed) but this line holds a ton of promise. Kirk and Spock should be available this summer and will have tons of premium features like layered undershirt and uniform clothing, accessories, opening communicators, two-part phasers, magnets to attach equipment to their belts, and more. These figures will be approximately in the range of $175-$200, and QMx exclusive editions will have a Vulcan Harp (Spock) and Phaser Rifle (Kirk). Not on display but also on the way is the Captain Picard figure we saw at SDCC.

For fun little figures, look no further than the QFigs, stylized versions of your favorite DC and Marvel characters. A variety of upcoming releases were on display including Wonder Woman, Poison Ivy, TV’s Arrow, Captain America, Hulk, Deadpool, and more. These figures are tricked out with translucent parts and a really fun look, and where appropriate will feature light effects in their bases. They retail for about $15-$20 depending on size and complexity, and Quantum Mechanix is making several as Loot Crate exclusives that may or may not be available separately later (Deadpool, Hulk in May). QMX is also releasing the previously exclusive Back to the Future Hoverboard for only $10.
