SDCC14: NECA Classic Video Game Appearances

Robocop Vs. The Terminator and '89 Batman...

As revealed the morning before Comic-Con Preview Night (HERE), NECA's next action figure entry in their Classic Video Game Appearances will be a series of figures from Robocop Vs. The Terminator. Released in late 1993 for the popular 16-bit home console, Robocop vs. The Terminator answered the burning question of sci-fi fans worldwide: which man/machine would win in a fight? The "future of law enforcement" or the actual future?

Series 1, arriving this October, includes two versions of The Terminator with paint deco that re-creates the video game shading. The T-800 includes a Plasma Rifle accessory, and the Endoskeleton comes with a standing Heavy Machine Gun accessory.

Series 2, also due out in October, includes two versions of Robocop with paint deco that re-creates the video game shading. Flamethrower Robocop includes a massive flamethrower accessory with removable “flame spray” attachment. Fire-Damaged Robocop is partially covered in sculpted flames and comes with rocket launcher and laser pistol accessories.

On display at Comic-Con was a Series 3 which will pack two Endoskeletons featuring different deco (blue and rusty red). A Terminator Dog was also shown to gauge public reaction. If the Robocop Vs. The Terminator series is successful, this figure will be released somehow in the future, most likely as Series 4 paired with a yet-to-be-announced figure.

Another 7" Classic Video Game Appearance action figure to make its debut at Comic-Con was 1989 Batman. Scheduled for release in September, this figure is noteworthy for being the first 7-inch Batman figure NECA has produced. While NECA has the license for DC product in Quarter Scale, Head Knockers, HeroClix and other miscellaneous merchandise, the 7-inch scale has been a category held by Mattel and DC Collectibles. Looks like NECA found a clever way to acquire the license through their unique Classic Video Game Appearance interpretation.
