SDCC13: Return of the SHOGUN WARRIORS
Toynami Reimagines Super Robot Series...
Toynami greeted Comic-Con attendees with a giant Egyptian-like robot announcing the return of the Shogun Warriors. Actually, "return" is the wrong word, as Toynami's Shogun Warriors introduces all-new robots and an entirely new concept to the super robot series. Finding that getting the licensees for the many past Shogun Warrior properties onboard would be near impossible, Toynami President George Sohn decided to purchase the name and reimagine the property for a new generation of fans.
The idea behind the new Shogun Warriors is that select ancient civilizations on Earth possessed advanced technology. This is grounded in real life mysteries, such as the building of the pyramids. This ancient technology was created for good: to construct towering robots to ward off an alien threat. Soon, however, the tech proved too tempting for those seeking power and the ancient civilizations turned on each other. The wars buried the Shogun Warriors - as the devastating machines were called - and were lost to time. Enter present day, where once again Earth finds itself threatened by an extraterrestrial menace. The hunt for the lost Shogun Warriors is on...
That's the basic premise, but it's much more indepth and exciting than that. To fully immerse fans in the new Shogun Warriors experience, Toynami is going all out with a new comic series planned (a preview copy was available for free at Comic-Con), future animated series, mobile apps, and of course toys, including die-cast and jumbo action figures. On display at Toynami's booth was a teaser of what collectors can look forward to; Shogun Warriors designs for Greek, Mayan and Egypt shown. The latter amazed with a full action figure prototype, the Egyptian robot named Pyramis Ra. Toynami isn't ready to announce a firm launch date yet, their Shogun Warriors Comic-Con display a soft tease to get fans excited, but you can be sure that the future looks very promising.
