Mattel announces that they have extended the sale for their MattyCollector 2012 Subscription Plans by one week: Until Sunday August 14th at 11:59 pm PT. The plans include:

    * Voltron Club Lion Force - Get 5 Lions that make a 23" tall Voltron, 5 Pilots with pieces to make an Ultra Blazing Sword, plus a club-exclusive Sven.

    * Masters of the Universe Club Eternia - To include Sorceress, Kobra Kahn and more.

    * Ghostbusters Club Ecto-1 - Fans will get a figure of Dana Barrett.

However, the extended deadline most benefits MattyCollector's newest club: DC Universe Club Infinite Earths. To include 6" characters like Poison Ivy, Atrocitus, The Flash 1 and Starman, the club will also offer over-sized figures. These over-sized offerings will be the only way to get what are currently Collect-and-Connect bonus figures featured in each wave - something Mattel will be phasing out completely next year. The bad news is that currently only 29% have subscribed to Club Infinite Earths - 71% away from the level of subscribers needed to move forward with the plan.

Fan reaction to the DC Universe Club Infinite Earths has been a mixed bag. While collectors want to continue to get large figures (to be priced at $30 each) as well as more obscure DC character choices, they do not want to lock into a yearly plan not knowing WHICH characters they will be receiving (large and small). Pricing is also a concern. While each standard figure will retail for only $15 under the plan, shipping on each figure brings them closer to $23 each (more than at mass retail).

What are your thoughts on DC Universe Club Infinite Earths? Do you support it or will you take your chances (and loses) with the continued standard line at retail?
