Reboot the series began airing in 1994, and while poor in quality by today’s standards, is ground-breaking in the fact that it was the first fully computer-animated half-hour television series. The series ran from 1994-2001 and included four seasons and 47 episodes and featured many colorful characters and stories which often parodied pop culture, while including plenty of computer humor for nerds to geek out over.

The general plot of the show involved adventures by characters inside a virtual city called Mainframe. Bob, a Guardian, is tasked with protecting the city, not only from outside threats, but also internal ones from the series’ villains Megabyte and Hexadecimal. He is friends with Dot Matrix and her kid brother Enzo who run a diner and who often become wrapped up in the villain’s schemes.

The Reboot Season 1 & 2 DVD Set includes all 23 episodes from the first two seasons of the show spread across 4 DVDS in a collector’s slipcase packaging that captures the feel of the show. Shout Factory! has given the series a complete overhaul, with newly animated DVD a slight visual makeover to give the animation a more crisp appearance and enhanced sound quality over the originally aired episodes. On top of these improvements, the series doesn’t include really any bonus content or special features other than some new Audio Commentaries included in several episodes.

Despite these enhancements the series definitely shows its age with severely outdated animation that really doesn't hold up like other shows even made prior and storylines that were often weak in terms of entertainment value. However, despite my own complaints, fans of the series will surely appreciate the steps Shout Factory! has taken to bring this show back into mainstream release and available for a new generation of kids to enjoy. Reboot Season 1 & 2, along with Reboot: The Definitive Mainframe Edition (a complete series set available now exclusively through Shout Factory’s online store), are available now from Shout Factory!
