Based on the fantastic stop-motion film from director Henry Selick that recently hit DVD and BLU-Ray and which is based on the creepy story by award-winning author Neil Gaiman, Coraline is a unique journey akin to Alice in Wonderland.

Coraline is the story of a young girl, who having recently moved, is bored with her new apartment building the “Pink Palace”. One night she discovers a door that leads to a twisted, alternate version of our world that seems fantastic at first, but that harbors a dark side.

NECA has captured the unique look of the fabulous puppets that were used in the creation of this extraordinary film and this news exclusive captures one of the many outfits Coraline wears in the movie.

    PACKAGING:

Coraline comes packaged in a small, compact box identical to the regular series releases. The overall color is a striped pink on all sides and is complimented by a black insert on the inside of the box. The back has images of the other figures in the series and a short bio on the film. The back also features imagery to suggest torn fabric, patterns, sewing, and of course, buttons.

    SCULPT & ARTICULATION:

Coralie features essentially a slender rubber body over a wire armature that allows for bendable poseability in her midsection, arms, and legs. Her hands and feet are fully moveable as well due to their peg-based assembly. Her head is mounted on a ball-joint allowing for full rotation. The head sculpt itself captures the unique look of the film, with Coraline’s wavy hair being cast in a translucent blue color. The face has been made a separate piece that provides an interesting feature to the figure. If you remove the face, the eyes are mounted so that they may be arranged in different positions, allowing for more display options and different expressions. The face itself features a sideways, slight inquisitive look about it with the nose turned to the left and the mouth pulled far to the left as well.

    PAINT & COSTUME:

Because most of her body is covered by her outfit, Coraline has very basic, one-color paint apps ob everything but her face. Her eyebrows, freckles, lips, and pupils have all been applied very cleanly. She also has some light airbrushing to give her face some color. Her outfit consists of her form-fitting star-patterned sweater and black corduroy pants, both of which are nicely tailored with no loose threads or snags. Both of these articles are loose enough to not hinder movement, but are fastened tightly in the back by Velcro. If the desire came about, you could potentially remover her garments by popping off her hands and feet.

    PRICE & OVERALL:

If you were a fan of the film, you will definitely want to complete your set of Coraline memorabilia with this fourth and final release in the series. While originally available at SDCC09, you can find Coraline at NECA's Amazon Store for the same $20 retail price.
