    NYTF16: Bluefin

The Coolest Imports You’ll See This Year...

Among the companies best known for their impressive convention displays is Bluefin, the U.S. importer for Bandai (Japan) and a slew of other companies coming out with unique and dynamic products ranging from Egg Attack figures to stunning 1/6th scale athletes and everything in between. At New York Toy Fair 2016 Bluefin had its usual sprawling booth display that included too many items to mention, but we’ll go through which companies were on hand and you can see all the action in our photo gallery (links above and below).

-Beast Kingdom: the unique and fun style of the Egg Attack line continues to delight fans with static figures and “action” versions with articulation. On display were lots of Star Wars figures (Darth Vader, various troopers, droids), the hovering/spinning Millennium Falcon, and from The Force Awakens Captain Phasma, Kylo Ren, and a First Order Stormtrooper

-Comicave Studios: known for their incredible series of partially die-cast metal Iron Man figures, Comicave’s display included upcoming items in that line (Mark XLIII, Silver Centurion, the massive Hulkbuster, etc.) plus 1/22 Transformers movie Autobots and two new Disney series: CubeIts are figures with magnetic bases in tiny plastic cubes that you can stack and connect while Podz are figures attached to small jars for storing fun or everyday items with a collectible twist

-HeroCross: DC Comics and Batman ’66 Hybrid Metal Figuration figures

-Kids Logic: Back to the Future II floating Hoverboards and DeLorean and super cute figures of Street Fighter characters and G1 Transformers cartoon Constructicons/Devastator

-Sentinel: more Iron Man and War Machine figures, mini Danboards, and Armarauders Bellerophon in two colors

-S.H. FiguArts: by far the most display space was devoted to Bandai and Tamashii Nations, and of course there were tons of hot FiguArts and MonsterArts. On hand were the newly-announced US-exclusive Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Queen’s Freddie Mercury, DIY figures, Dragonball Z movie figures (like the new Whis from Resurrection of F and Super Saiyan Trunks), the distinctive Star Wars characters translated into the traditional Japanese style of Movie Realization, Mario Bros. featuring Bowser, Sailor Moon and the new Black Lady, and even more. On the MonsterArts front we got to see 2001 Godzilla ($83) and learned that there will be more figures on the way including characters from the upcoming relaunch!

-Storm Collectibles: this relatively new company (at least to the U.S. audience) is blowing people away with their 12 inch scale figures, and at Bluefin’s booth were characters from Street Fighter and Mortal Kombat along with real-life fighters Bruce Lee and Mike Tyson

-X-Plus: large-scale Dragonball Z figures and Mega Man!

    -Scott Rubin
