UNBOXING: Mecha Workshop Armarauders Deluxe BELLEROPHON Action Figure

This Is How You Debut A New Collectible...

Way back in March of this year I had the privilege of providing an advance review on Mecha Workshop's Armarauders Deluxe Bellerophon Action Figure (you can read it HERE). However, because it was a production sample, final packaging was not available at the time. That all changes now that the Bellerophon has been released. In-stock now at many fine retailers, including BigBadToyStore.com priced at $254.99, the Armarauders Deluxe Bellerophon Action Figure is money well spent. Not only do you get an incredible action figure, but the packaging design is simply amazing. In my many years of dealing with toy collectibles, never have I encountered a packaging design as nice as this one.

As mentioned in our figure review, this deluxe introductory package marks the first-run of the Bellerophon action figure. For the robot's grand debut, no expense was spared. First off, the box for this beast is huge, measuring a solid 16-inches tall, 12-inches wide and almost 9 inches in thickness. Equally impressive is the material used, a nice and chunky cardboard construction. Jaw-dropping artwork by Hidetaka Tenjin adorns the front, along with all the responsible parties: Production by Mecha Workshop and Manufacturing and Distribution by Sentinel. The bottom right-hand corner features a gold foil sticker that proclaims this figure as being the "First Production Run" and including "Exclusive Contents". This introductory "Deluxe Bundle" includes a docking station decked out in "comic colors," an Armarauders content DVD, exclusive Issue #01 comic book (variant of online version), first-run exclusive alternate clear head dome for the Bellerophon, and two exclusive diorama backgrounds ("The Battalion’s Charge" and "Testudo Mobile Tank Mech Hangar"), which are actually part of this amazing package design. After the initial Deluxe Bundle release, the Bellerophon and docking station will be sold separately, sans all the extra goodies (and super amazing packaging design).

The back of the box gives you an excellent introduction to the world of Armarauders, along with a list of all the exciting features you'll find on the Bellerophon and pilot action figures. Remember when I said the box was 9 inches thick? That's so a slide-out box can fit inside. This inner surprise attracts with a silver foil image of the Bellerophon. Once the inner box is removed, the surprises keep coming...

The inner box is actually TWO boxes. The two halves are connected and can be swung open to create a massive diorama backdrop - "The Battalion’s Charge". Pretty darn neato.

The two box halves are where you'll find your Bellerophon action figure, docking bay and accessories. The Bellerophon box side features a cool cut-out window view of the action figure with call outs to its extensive armament and weaponry. The figure and all its accessories pull out on an inner plastic tray from the top of the box (or is it the side?). The other box contains the docking bay and its components, also stowed on a slide-out plastic tray. However, instead of a window box view of the docking bay, more art work is featured, that being the second diorama backdrop: "Testudo Mobile Tank Mech Hangar". Just spectacular packaging presentation.

Like the box for the Bellerophon action figure, the included DVD is also a thing of beauty. Making for a great mini-diorama for the pilot, the DVD includes tons of cool extras, including the Armarauders motion comic, concept art, character bios and even the soundtrack!

Last but not least is the detailed instruction booklet and exclusive Issue #01 comic book!

Mecha Worksop has poured blood, sweat, and tears into their Armarauders project - and it shows. The action figure itself is a testament to that hard work, the final collectible coming out even better than the figure I reviewed back in March. All issues, such as slightly loose joints, have been corrected. However, it is this wonderful Bellerophon packaging design that takes the entire project to the next level. This is how you debut a new collectible: with style and class. Armarauders lock 'n load!

Wow, this is a really impressive write-up, and that's a lot of great pics.
This item has really interested me since it was revealed, and it's nice to see how highly you think of it. It does look pretty incredible now that you've provided such an in-depth look at it.'
