    REVIEW: DST Marvel Select Hulkbuster

Massive Figure Offers Plenty of Bang For Your Buck. Over 50 New Photos!...

Just last month Diamond Select Toys announced that they were releasing a Marvel Select Hulkbuster as a Marvel Shop exclusive (see our story HERE). Like many, I immediately placed my pre-order and eagerly awaited its estimated arrival of later this summer. Needless to say, I was pleasantly surprised when this figure arrived on my doorstep yesterday. Marvel Select Hulkbuster had been unleashed!

The figure is one of DST's larger releases, similar to their massive Hulks. Measuring approximately 8.5-inches tall (more like 7.5" hunched over), Hulkbuster stands impressive, but is made even more so with his large girth (also approximately 8 inches across with arms slightly raised at his side). This is a nice meaty action figure, solidly built and featuring a wide range of movement. Articulation includes his slightly rotating domed head (you'll have to squeeze your fingers in there as the head is recessed), a great ball-joint at the waist for all sorts of cool posing, ball-jointed shoulders with armor flaps that are independently pegged (attached by a small ball-joint which feels a bit flimsy, but all is holding well so far), ball-jointed wrists, thighs, and feet, and tight ratchet-style hinged joints at the elbows and knees. About my only criticism is that Hulkbuster's fingers aren't articulated; the hands are pre-posed with one stretched open, the other balled up in a fist. While finger articulation is missing, the sculpted pose DST chose is very dynamic and is very similar to the smaller Marvel Universe Hulkbuster that was released in conjunction with Iron Man II (see photo below).

In fact the entire Marvel Select Hulkbuster takes its sculpted appearance from the smaller figure (a good thing), but amps up the former figure's dull burgundy palette with a slick metallic red and gold color scheme. There is some paint slop, especially on the silver pistons, and I had a few blemished spots where the paint must have still been wet. However, these minor paint defects are easily overlooked in the grand scheme of things, that being Hulkbusters huge size, awesome sculpt and fun articulation.

DST's Marvel Select is a blast to play around with and an incredible representation of the comic book Hulkbuster armor. I LOVED the look of the new Avengers 2 Hulkbuster armor, but I refuse to pay Hot Toys prices for a 1:6th scale version, as well as shelling out the time and cash assembling the Marvel Legends Build-A-Figure. Priced at $24.99, this is one Hulkbuster figure that offers plenty of bang for your buck. Available now at shop.marvel.com.
