ADVANCE LOOK: WizKids Games Marvel HeroClix Age Of Ultron Storyline Month 2 Prize Kit

Exclusive First Look At Graviton Limited Edition Figure And Hulk’s ID Card...

Have you played in a Marvel HeroClix Age of Ultron Storyline Month 1 event yet? They’re going on this month at friendly neighborhood comic and game stores everywhere, and players are already collecting the unique figures in the tournament-exclusive booster set, winning prizes, and racking up points towards the series’ finale. In Month 1 players are facing or fielding armies of Ultrons and killer robots, with characters from 2013’s comic book Age of Ultron crossover event and other important storylines related to Ultron and the Avengers. In the premiere event all participants got the Avengers Round Table and Iron Man Avengers I.D. Card, with winners getting their hands on the Grandmaster prize (all of which you can see HERE). Today we’ve got an exclusive first look at the Age of Ultron Month 2 prize kit for July bringing the Hulk Avengers I.D. Card participation item and the Graviton Limited Edition prize figure!

    Hulk Avengers ID Card

The new mechanic and game feature debuted only one month ago with the Avengers Assemble booster set (see our review HERE), but already there are nearly two dozen Avengers I.D. Cards out there for players to collect. They’re a fun new way to help out your team, costing 5 points and tied to a figure on your sideline. Give a character on your force (of equal or higher point value) a Power Action to bring in your I.D. Character for one turn during which it can take an action, absorb some damage, and buff your figures with its Inspiration benefit. In Age of Ultron Month 1 came the technological genius Iron Man, and now the Hulk has arrived!

When you call in the mighty green giant the Hulk provides a pretty amazing Inspiration for close combat teams: “Can use Charge. Modify attack value by +1 when making a close combat attack.” Most Hulk figures you’ll use for this mechanic will be attacking as well, though you could switch things up and use a Bruce Banner for brains (Outwit, Perplex, and the like) rather than brawn instead. Don’t forget that the Hulk card also works with the Avengers Round Table from Month 1 for even more calling for help and inspiration fun.

    Graviton

Following the trend from Month 1, Month 2 gives us another classic Avengers villain in a whole new, fearsome incarnation. Winners and fellowship champions in July will be rewarded for their efforts with a new Graviton! Franklin Hall was a mild-mannered research physicist when a lab accident imbued him with the power to control gravity. He quickly shows just how radical this power set can be when he lifts a building into the sky and nearly defeats the Avengers. This trend would continue throughout the years with Graviton causing trouble, lifting buildings, and ultimately being thwarted by Avengers.

Graviton has appeared in HeroClix just once before as a Unique character in 2006’s Marvel Supernova set, and while dated his sculpt still looks cool with the figure standing on a string of rocks rising from his base and extending upwards around him. The new Graviton, though, exudes a Zen-like cool that takes him to a whole different level. The villain hovers in the air, sitting cross-legged with his hands resting on his knees. Behind him is a column of translucent pink energy that holds him up and explodes into a nova, and the altitude, weather conditions, or just his power makes his hair and cape flutter to the side. Graviton wears an updated costume consisting of a black bodysuit with silver shoulder pads and forearm guards plus three red circles on his chest. The figure looks great, especially the movement in the cape and hair, the texturing on the energy effect, and the excellent paint job highlighted by Graviton’s goatee and eyes.

The classic Graviton was a powerhouse boasting an incredible 12 range with three targets, great powers, and solid stats (for the time, and even now his damage track is enviable for 178 points). So let’s take a look at the newcomer. Age of Ultron Graviton is 47 points more expensive and comes loaded with Flight, Indomitable, a respectable 9 range with three targets, and a trait giving him permanent access to Incapacitate that also does damage! An eight-click dial boasts a lot of high numbers, especially in attack and damage (like his previous version). Graviton’s dial is broken up into three sections starting with Sidestep, a special power giving him Telekinesis that counts enemies as allies for movement and gives the free movement of objects when he has no action tokens, and Invulnerability. On click #3 the villain gets really mad and switches to Running Shot, a 12 attack Pulse Wave, Impervious, and a 5 damage with another special power locking the speed of enemies given an action within 5 squares at a 3. The “Master of the Fundamental Force” sees on his last three clicks Force Blast, a lethal three-target Energy Explosion, and a third special power granting Energy Shield/Deflection and Toughness. Leaving 75 points for support Graviton can be really effective in a 300 point game, and he pairs up best with figures sharing his A.I.M. or Scientist keywords.

So there you have it, the Age of Ultron Storyline OP Month 2 prize kit, due to hit stores at the end of June for tournaments in July. If you’re just joining the fun, check with your local store where you buy HeroClix to make sure they’re running Age of Ultron, or use the Store Locator function in the WizKids Event System on heroclix.com. Everyone who participates in Month 2 will receive the Hulk Avengers I.D. Card (which you can use by itself or attached to the Avengers Round Table from Month 1), while winners and fellowship champs will get the Limited Edition Graviton figure. Note that the Month 2 prize kit does not include a new map; you'll be playing games on the Hank Pym’s Lab/Thebes, Egypt maps from Month 1. Good luck with your pulls, and we’ll see you back here in just a couple weeks to look at the Month 3 kit!
