A follow-up to the Disney classic animated feature, which in turn is based on the 1923 book Bambi, A Life in the Woods, Bambi II is a midquel that takes place in the middle of the events of Bambi. The film fills viewers in on just what happened during the time shortly after Bambi’s mother passed away and the spring when he emerges as a young buck reuniting with his old friends. Interestingly enough, the film holds the record for having the longest time between consecutive installments of a franchise with over 64 years between the time Bambi was released in theaters in 1942 and Bambi’s direct-to-video release in February 2006. The film now returns to home video in a special edition Blu-ray/DVD combo pack.

The film looks better than ever now that it has been given the Blu-Ray treatment. Bambi II has been re-worked into a flawless 1080p high-definition picture that looks amazing and has been boosted even more with the addition of a 5.1 DTS-HD Master Audio soundtrack that is simple breathtaking.

As far as bonus content goes, all of the features are in regular format, and most of the features & games are carried over from the film’s DVD release. The two additions are the new Friend Owl’s Fun Forest Games, an interactive learning experience, and a Deleted Song “Sing The Day”, which was thankfully omitted from the final cut of the film as it is substandard and doesn’t really fit the scene. The other features include Thumper’s Hurry & Scurry Game, The Legacy Continues making-of featurette, Bambi’s Trivia Tracks, and Disney’s Sketchpad, which has Disney artist Andrea Deja showing fans how to draw.

While Disney sequels have a hit-or-miss reputation, Bambi II is by far one of the best continuations that the company has put out. With voice acting by Patrick Stewart as the Great Prince of the Forest, some enchanting music, and a story that adds to the original, Bambi II is a sure bet. The Bambi II Special Edition Blu-ray Combo Pack is available now wherever movies are sold.
