#BREAKTHERULES...
Toys-to-life video games are all the craze, thanks to Skylanders kicking off the interactive movement back in 2011. Since then, Disney has joined the fray with Infinity and recently Nintendo has hopped in on the action with Amiibos. Now fans can look forward to LEGO and their stable of hot construction block licenses with LEGO Dimensions.
Launching on September 27, 2015 for all major console systems (Xbox 360, Xbox One, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4 and Wii U), LEGO Dimensions will blend a variety of universes together including DC Comics, The Lord of the Rings, The LEGO Movie, The Wizard of Oz, Ninjago and Back to the Future. In development by Travelers Tales Games, the company responsible for all previous LEGO video games, LEGO Dimensions will be sold as a Starter Pack retailing for $99.99. Much like Skylanders and its portal system, the LEGO game bundle will come packaged with a LEGO Toy Pad, which allows players to transport special LEGO minifigures and other LEGO objects into the game. The starter bundle will also include building bricks and three LEGO Minifigures to use in the game, including LEGO Batman and his Batmobile from DC Comics, Gandalf from The Lord of the Rings and Wyldstyle from The LEGO Movie.
Additional minifigure expansion packs will see release to allow gamers to further customize their experience. These will be sold as Level Packs ($29.99), Team Packs ($24.99) and Fun Packs ($14.99). The expansion packs to be available in 2015 include:
- Back to the Future Level Pack with a Marty McFly minifigure
- LEGO Ninjago Team Pack with Kai and Cole minifigures
- Three Ninjago Fun Packs with Jay, Nya and Zane minifigures
- Two DC Comics Fun Packs with Wonder Woman and Cyborg minifigures
- Three Lord of the Rings Fun Packs with Gollum, Gimli and Legolas minifigures
- Four LEGO Movie Fun Packs with Emmet, Bad Cop, Benny and Unikitty
- A Wizard of Oz Fun Pack with a Wicked Witch of the West minifigure
