Few things stir as many fond memories of growing up as the television shows that we enjoyed with our families or sat glued to on a Saturday Morning while we ate or cereal in our PJs. For this reviewer, growing up during the eighties not only brought an amazing array of creative and exciting cartoon series and children’s programming, but also a wealth of family programs, including some of the most beloved and memorable sitcoms of all time. One such television show that left a lasting impression was the 1985 show Small Wonder.

Now being released to DVD for the first time by Shout! Factory, Small Wonder: The Complete First Season brings the first 24 episodes of the endearing series to fans of all ages. Although it’s not without a fair share of 80’s cheese, the show also provides plenty of laughs and heart and some great 80’s pop culture littered throughout the series set.

The series follows the adventures of the Lawson family and their human-looking robot named V.I.C.I. Ted, his wife Joan, and their son Jamie must teach V.I.C.I. the ways of the world at the same time keeping her out of trouble and her secret safe from their nosy neighbors, the Brindles.

While the quality of the picture and sound isn’t up to the same level as other more recent television releases, it in now way affects the enjoyment of watching V.I.C.I. stumble through life’s problems the only way a Voice Input Child Indenticant can. Fans of the show will be thrilled about the inclusion of several bonus features across the four-disc set. Five of the episodes in the set include Commentary with the Creator and Cast and the discs include the Original Episode Promos for each episode in the season. The last disc also includes a Fan Art Gallery.

Whether you’re young or old, seeing the show for the first time or coming back to reminisce, you are sure to fall in love with Small Wonder. You can find Small Wonder: The Complete First Season for $25.99, available now from Shout! Factory
