PHOTO REVIEW: Dark Horse GAME OF THRONES Figures - VARYS

The Skilled Manipulator Makes His Series Debut...

Season 6 is by far the best season of Game of Thrones yet. Many plot lines have finally been resolved (or are close to it), while more and more characters have meet their demise (or have shockingly returned!). A seventh season has been announced, but with only seven episodes confirmed for 2017, it appears that Game of Thrones is fast approaching the end.

One character that hasn't meet his end yet is Varys. Expertly played by starring cast member Conleth Hill, Varys, also known as "The Spider," is a skilled manipulator. He's also a eunuch, something the show likes to point out from time to time. I suppose it is to demonstrate that you don't have to be a "real man" in order to have power, similar to the small and frail-looking Daenerys proving that women can kick butt too. Regardless, Varys is always a fascinating character to listen too. He's extremely intelligent and always one step ahead. Thankfully he's one of the "good guys," so that helps make him likable as well.

Dark Horse continues their extensive Game of Thrones figure series with an excellent rendition of Varys. Bald and slightly overweight, Varys isn't the most interesting character to look at as far as collectibles go. On the other hand, his wardrobe of flowing robes have always been a looker - the costume department for Game of Thrones is second to none. Dark Horse captures this particular outfit quite nicely, giving Varys a calm, worldly vibe. Their sculpt of Conleth Hill is also some of Dark Horse's best work in the line. Yes, Varys being bald does help establish the portrait, but the eyes and expression are dead-ringers for the character.

For those who have never seen Game of Thrones, Dark Horse's figure of Varys is not going to excite them. However, for fans of the hit fantasy series like myself, Varys is a must-have. Varys might not be the most visually striking character, but the actor that portrays him and his way with words makes Varys one of my favorite characters on the show.

Game of Thrones Season 6 concludes on HBO this Sunday, 6-26.
