SDCC15: Toynami Robotech More Super Deformed, 1/100th Veritechs, And Brand New Action Figures... CLICK HERE TO SEE THE ROBOTECH DISPLAY AT TOYAMI FOR SDCC15! If you grew up in the 80s, chances are good that you remember Robotech. The anime-turned Saturday morning cartoon is famous for helping to bring the Japanese art form to the States, and it’s just an awesome show with cool mecha designs, complex characters and storylines, and more. Toynami is the sole producer of Robotech goods these days, and for the 30th anniversary of the show has beefed up the selection with new Super Deformed blind boxes and 1/100th scale transformable Veritechs. So what was new at Comic-Con? Lots as it turns out! First off, there were prototypes for more Super Deformed toys with a Max Sterling figure and stealthy black-schemed Destroids and Zentraedi Battlepod. The 1/100th scale transformable Veritechs have seen some re-releases lately, and now Toynami is moving to a robust deluxe presentation with the GBP Heavy Armor series featuring the same basic toys plus new removable armor pieces (for use in Battloid mode only). Coming next month, this series includes Max Sterling’s VF-1J, Roy Fokker’s 1S, and Rick Hunter’s 1J. If you were at the show you could also get a Stealth version in black. Hopefully you’re still reading, because I saved the best for last. Toynami is planning a line of 4 inch Robotech action figures!!! I couldn’t be more excited for Robotech figures, and the prototypes looked great. On hand were Lynn Minmei, Rick Hunter, Roy Fokker, Max Sterling, and Miriya Sterling. The pilots wear their distinctive flightsuits in their respective colors while Minmei rocks her iconic red dress. The figures have great sculpts and solid articulation (only Minmei is slightly limited due to her dress shape). The pilots will even come with alternate, interchangeable helmeted heads!
