The Thunder Buddies Are Back...

Everyone's favorite Thunder Buddy is back for another go around in TED 2, released on Blu-ray and DVD today, 12/15. Seth McFarlane's sequel to the tremendously successful TED comes with the theatrical cut as well as a longer and filthier unrated cut and a number of extras, released by Universal Pictures Home Entertainment.
TED 2 brings back Ted's best friend John (Mark Wahlberg), dejected after a divorce but the newly married Ted faces a different set of problems with his co-worker wife Tami-Lynn (Jessica Barth). Ted decides that to fix his marital troubles, he needs to have kids with his wife, but problems arise as Ted's legal status as a person is questioned, creating more problems with their marriage, employment, and all human rights in general. Amanda Seyfried joins the cast as Samantha L. Jackson, a lawyer hoping to help in their situation.
Giovanni Ribisi and Morgan Freeman also star, along with several cameos from NFL Star Tom Brady, Liam Neeson, Jimmy Kimmel, Jay Leno, Patrick Warburton, John Slattery, Michael Dorn, and Flash Gordon's Sam J. Jones, and many more.

THE MOVIE
The film itself wasn't as successful as the first one, and watching TED 2, it's not hard to see why. Seth MacFarlane is incredibly talented and his respect for classic filmmaking is very well apparent and deserves a big thumbs up when the opening credits dance number rolls. But in a dirty comedy about a weed smoking bear, things don't exactly fit together as well as they should. There's a few good laughs but there's also a lot of scenes vulgar for the sake of being vulgar. Repeat viewings may not help all that much but if you like the first film, there are a few good chuckles here.
The Blu-ray is both clean and the details look fantastic, but occasionally the computer generated bear doesn't quite feel really there. This is perhaps an instance where the DVD might be more convincing.
The Unrated version is about ten minutes longer than the theatrical cut and can be argued that it's actually better than the theatrical cut.

THE EXTRAS
There's a decent amount of bonus features that comes with Ted 2, including deleted scenes, Gag Reel and several featurettes about the production that include Thunder Buddies 4 Lyfe, Creating Comic-Con, Cameo Buddies, A Giant Opening Dance Number, Roadtripping.
There's a lot of fun in the bonus features, especially the behind the scenes in recreating the New York Comic-Con and the making of the opening number.
The main event in comedies though is the audio commentary and fortunately there's one included here with Producer/Director/Co-Writer Seth MacFarlane, Executive Producers/Co-Writers Alec Sulking & Welesley Wild, and star Jessica Barth.
