LEGOLAND California Resort is introducing a “Model Builder Challenge” as Master Model Builders Tim Sams and Rob McCarthy go “brick to brick” against each other while building LEGO models based on the Resort’s new LEGO Legends of Chima Water Park presented by Cartoon Network, opening Memorial Day weekend .

The first stop on the Model Builder Challenge is Denver, CO on March 8 at the Children’s Museum of Denver with the theme of “Lion’s Chi Temple.” The competition will continue onto Dallas, Santa Barbara, Phoenix and San Francisco.

As the Model Builder Challenge kicks-off , fans all over the world have the chance to interact with each Model Builder via social media and provide suggestions, ask questions, show-off their own models as inspiration and cheer on their favorite builder. Fans can vote for either Tim (#BuilderTim) or Rob (#BuilderRob) to help their favorite builder win the ultimate prize: a magical LEGO orb of CHI.

“We are excited to be sharing a piece of LEGOLAND California Resort with our fans who are just as passionate about LEGO as we are,” said Sams. “And hopefully they’ll appreciate my passion and creativity as well and lead me to victory!”

Voting takes place on LEGOLAND California Resort’s Facebook page. Fans are invited to come to each event to support their favorite Model Builder while seeing exclusive LEGO models for the new Water Park including a four-foot tall Legends of Chima character Laval, a giant orb of golden CHI plus a miniature version of the new Water Park. In addition, guests have a chance to win tickets to visit the Resort to experience the new Chima Water Park by answering trivia questions at each event.

“I thought building and maintaining the more than 27,000 LEGO models in the Park was hard work, but that seems easy when competing against Tim,” said McCarthy. “But I think with my fans help and creativity, I’ll be able to create a unique model in every city that will make me the ultimate winner!”

CHIMA Water Park is based on the LEGO Group’s newest product “Legends of Chima,” where animal tribes battle in a mystical land for control of the precious energy source called “CHI.” The new Chima Water Park will be included in the cost of admission to LEGOLAND Water Park which opened in 2010 as the world’s first LEGOLAND Water Park.
