Among the most fun you can have at Toy Fair is checking out the Royal Bobbles booth, and this year they had several neat new licenses and characters on display for upcoming products. They're working on a lineup of presidential busts, represented in their booth by early prototypes of Abraham Lincoln and George Washington in both painted and bronze finish versions. These were digitally sculpted and will be further refined before release, and show off just a couple of the different paint possibilities. The big news from Royal was a quartet of new items that should see release soon. Pope Francis and Bigfoot (based on the classic pose from the grainy video) are nearly ready, while Mr. Bean and Pee-wee Herman are awaiting final licensor approval and any last revisions. The Pee-wee is interesting because it's the first Paul Reubens product based on his actual face. He's been working very closely with Royal on the bobblehead and is very excited about the project! In addition, facing the challenge of representing Herman's plaid suit the artists came up with a very interesting solution; Pee-wee's suit is actually sculpted with square sections in different elevations which when painted give the illusion of plaid. Pee-wee should go into production in early summer.
