Cotswold Collectibles, the U.S. distributor for Italian collectibles company Kaustic Plastik, provides us with an advance sample of Kaustic's latest 1:6th scale Muscle Body. Joining "Realistik" and "Heroik" comes Athletik. This toned figure body will be available in both Caucasian (shown, KP03B) and Afro-American (KP03C). Each body features over 40 points of articulation, a unique head portrait, life-like muscle definition and four posing hands. An Athletik Muscle Body sans the head sculpt (KP03A) will also be available.

Playing around with the well-constructed production sample (nothing cheap feeling here), I was quite impressed with the very fluid, yet extremely firm articulation. Unlike the stiff and/or flimsy early days of 1:6th scale figures, Kaustic's new Athletik body amazes by capturing and holding the human anatomy in toy form. There's honestly not a pose that this body can not retain. While muscle bodies have been introduced in the past, the Athletik doesn't sacrifice build for poseability. Movement aside, it is the visual aesthetic of the body that most impressed me. While meant to be dressed, the nude Athletik looks good in all the right places- Kaustic sculpting in popping veins and muscle definition. I particularily liked the neck and torso on the figure body - the entire region being cast in a more soft, pliable plastic that covers the underlying articulated structure. The result is a seamless sculpt with no ugly neck joints. The head sculpt, while generic, is hyper-realistic and features a cool stern expression. It's a great start for a kitbash, though you have to commend Kaustic for offering the new body headless for those seeking just the body.
These Athletik Muscle Bodies are currently available for pre-order at Cotswold - HERE (http://www.gijoeelite.com/f_display.asp?strDisplayName=KausticPlastik) - each priced at $49.99 ($39.99 for headless). These are scheduled to arrive late April/ mid May.
