While the few toys from the series may not have been very impressive, the Underworld films have done very well with genre fans and audiences around the world. The original battle between vampires and Lycans was released in 2003, with a bigger and louder sequel in 2006's Underworld: Evolution that featured massively powerful ancient versions of both monstrous species. Both of those films featured star Kate Beckinsale and director Len Wiseman, and both of them passed on the third film, the weaker but still satisfying prequel Underworld: Rise of the Lycans in 2009. Now Beckinsale is back in the role of Selene and ready to fight Lycans, humans, and god knows what else in next year's Underworld: Awakening 3D!
