Things are wrapping up for the April release of NECA's 1/4th Scale Classic Predator action figure. Pictured is a look at the packaging design that will hold this monstrosity when it ships.

NECA appear to have taken a huge gamble with these 1/4 scale figures and i for one don't know why they have taken this path. Their figures are great in 7" scale but at 1/4 scale? I just don't know, NECA are great at creatures and monsters but human faces was never their strong point. They are also very large and don't hold well against companies like Hot Toys ( I have seen pictures of NECA's 1/4 scale terminator 2 figures and wasn't impressed ). They have also made 3 versions of the predator instead of simply supplying interchangeable heads or removable masks, which i feel is just greedy.

Well, NECA isn't turning all their figures into 1/4 scale - just select ones starting with the Predator (a creature as you pointed out and not human). As for a gamble, sure it is, but already most retailers have sold out of all pre-orders indicating that this figure in this scale is pretty much a success.

I saw them in person at Toy Fair as was pretty much blown away by their size and sculpt. $80 is a bargain for a 19" tall figure of this scale. In comparison Hot Toys run $150+ for a 12" figure. BTW - NECA's Terminator 2 figures were 12 inch (1/6th scale), not 1/4 scale. I will agree with you that it would have been nice that one figure was released with all three head sculpts, but again, that would have raised the price considerably. A removeable mask was not an option as NECA has stated that to do so would jeopardize the head sculpt - they'd have to make the head smaller to accommodate the mask to look right.
