Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within is notable for being the first photorealistic computer animated feature film. That's not to say it was that good; the movie being rather dull and lacking soul. However, it DID look good; its radical departure from the "fantasy" seen in the video games to slick sci-fi quite refreshing.

I was instantly attracted to the cool gear the human soliders wore. Named "Deep Eyes," the futuristic military squad had these great looking battle helmets (pictured in the screen shot above) that were actually removable on the action figures (not pictured on card back). The crowning jewel of the toy line was the hard-to-find Copperhead, an Action Fleet-sized vehicle replica with rotating thrusters and unique design. Really nice collectibles from a so-so film.

I LOVE my Copperhead. Such a cool toy with all sorts of little hidden features and moving parts. The real tragedy is that they never got around to making a toy of Aki's "Black Boa" shuttle. What a great design with a slightly cetacean look!
