It’s hero time! Since the first episode of Ben 10 when the alien Omnitrix affixed itself to Ben Tennyson’s arm the boy has been able to transform into alien forms with its amazing technology. Originally a limited device with only ten DNA codes, the device has evolved along with the show gaining a host of new aliens and powers. When the show became Ben 10 Alien Force the Omnitrix got a major upgrade, but that was nothing compared to the current model: the Ultimatrix! Bandai has included several role-play Omnitrix toys in its Ben 10 line over the years, and the latest just might be the most fun, the Ben 10 Ultimate Alien Disc Alien Ultimatrix.

Originally created by the Galvan scientist known as Azimuth as a tool for improving inter-species relations, the Omnitrix was a powerful tool allowing its user to transform his DNA into that of other species temporarily. Sought as a weapon by Vilgax, the Omnitrix was diverted in its path and ended up on Earth. The rest, as they say, is history. In all of its forms the Omnitrix/Ultimatrix has resembled a large wristwatch-like construct with a main dial and other technological bits. Of course, it’s also always trademark Ben 10 green!

The new Ben 10 Ultimate Alien Disc Alien Ultimatrix comes packaged on a standard Ultimate Alien card that’s very similar to the one used on the basic figures. It’s got the show’s logo and an image of Ben at the top, and behind the toy is a light, bubbly background. The Ultimatrix is front and center, and around it are several photos of the toy in action. The back of the card has a detailed breakdown of the Ultimatrix’s functions and features that highlights how it works with the Alien Discs. Below all of that is an “also available” lineup of Alien Collection Figures that in turn come with the discs. Collect them all!

The Ultimatrix is a solid toy that’s oversized and perfect for younger fans. Under the blocky device is a wide green strap to mount it on your wrist, and with the long velcro it’ll fit a wide range of ages (and sizes). The Ultimatrix looks just like the “real thing” on the show, from the circular alien display and selection chamber to the elongated housing stretching down the arm. The main body is bright green with a gray turning mechanism and outlines in black. Further down are circuitry details in a lighter neon green with gray connectors. Inside the mechanism is a black panel adorned with the green Omnitrix logo (like an hourglass).

While it looks cool strapped on your wrist, the Ultimatrix’s real fun comes with the alien discs! With one in every Alien Collection package they’re plentiful, and this toy comes with a bonus Ultimate Humungousaur disc as well. Clear plastic, they pop up from a flat disc to a stylized bust of the alien hero.

With the Ultimatrix, you pop in a disc, push it down, and press the button on the device’s side. Each step has associated light and sound features just like in the show, culminating with the alien disc popping up out of the top at the end. When you activate the actual “Ultimate” alien discs the toy even shouts out their names!

The Ultimatrix is one of the most iconic cartoon devices in a long time, and one that kids everywhere will recognize on sight. This Disc Alien version is easy to wear and operate for even the smallest tykes (the package doesn’t lie when it says 4 and up), and the bright lights and cool sounds are just the icing on the cake. You can find the Ultimatrix at big box stores everywhere for just upwards of $20!
