Ask anyone what is the scariest movie they have ever seen and they are very likely to say The Exorcist. It's hard to believe that this suspenseful horror film, which was released in 1973, still manages to scare the crap out of people today. There is just something about a young Linda Blair in demonic make-up bound to a bed and covered in chicken pea soup that sends shivers up your spine. Now almost three decades later, one of the most iconic horror scenes in movie history has been immortalized in plastic courtesy of NECA.

PACKAGING: The creepy collectible is housed within a full color box that features a plastic window which runs along the top and left side as well as the front. The plastic window is surrounded by a green slime border reminiscent of the green vomit from the film.

The back of the box features the poster image from the 1973 film along with a mini bio. The right side panel features an image of the hand painted prototype of the possessed Regan. The inside of the box features a removable cardboard diorama of Regan's bedroom with father Merrin at her bedside performing the exorcism.

SCULPT: NECA has done a fantastic job in recreating the scene including possessed Regan and her bed. The level of detail put into all the fabric elements of the piece are all meticulously sculpted and look very realistic. The entire bed looks fantastic from top to bottom and even features the wrapped head and footboard posts just like in the film.

The possessed Regan figure is posed permanently sitting up in the bed bound to the bed by her wrists. The detailed head sculpt on Regan is very well done and captures her look from the film quite well.

PAINT: It seems that more focus was placed on coloring the elements of the bed on this piece instead of the figure, which is a bit disappointing. While the weathered sheets and pillow on the bed look amazingly lifelike as a result of the detailed dual-toned airbrushing, Regan herself does not look as impressive. It's a shame that a lot of the amazing paint details from the prototype were not captured successfully on the final production piece. Overall, the piece is painted very well but the main element is not.

ARTICULATION/FEATURES: The main idea behind this piece was capturing the iconic scene in the film and this does not require a high level of articulation. Regardless of that, Regan does feature swivel wrists and the head can be turned by hand without ruining the spinning mechanism on the neck.

The Exorcist

The bed has an activation button located at the bottom left portion of the back which plays the theme music from the film and activates the rotating head mechanism on the figure (see video above).

OVERALL: After a very long wait and the fear that this piece would never see the light of day, NECA has finally managed to release perhaps the most iconic horror film collectible ever. Regardless of the paint inconsistencies on the figure, this is one hell of a collectible set and the electronic features enhance it even more. The Exorcist Possesed Regan box set, priced at around $35, is available now through many fine retailers, including BigBadToySTore.com (http://www.bigbadtoystore.com/bbts/product.aspx?product=NEC11168&mode=retail), ToyWiz.com (http://www.toywiz.com/necaexorcistreganbedboxedset.html), and Urban-Collector.com (http://www.urban-collector.com/exorcist-regan-possessed-deluxe-box-set.html).
