San Diego Comic-Con coverage brought to you by Collectibles Insurance (http://www.collectinsure.com/), Big Bad Toy Store (http://www.bigbadtoystore.com/bbts/default.aspx), Sekaido (http://www.yesanimation.com/), and Monkey Depot (http://www.monkeydepot.com/Default.asp?Redirected=Y).

TRON LEGACY has been the talk of Comic-Con for a few years now and it's only appropriate that Disney celebrate in true Con style by giving fans some exclusive product. This year they offered a modern die-cast Lightcycle for $5 and reaching deep into nostalgia, produced a vintage style figure for $40.

Limited at 1,500 pieces, acquiring the TRON vintage figure was no easy task since it was limited to one per person and the line to obtain one was massive. The Disney booth sold out of their daily allotment early in the day making this figure difficult to obtain. But for those who missed out, we'll take a closer look at what made this exclusive a stand out this year.

Prior to Comic-Con, hearing that the TRON exclusive was a vintage figure without articulation, I scoffed... even though I was secretly attracted to the arcade style packaging. In person though, this figure is really impressive. Indeed it is a stationary piece of plastic but there are certain films that are weak spots for me and TRON just happens to be one of them.

The classic arcade style box is remarkable with great graphics and detail on all sides, recreating the 80's game. Through the window screen you can see the classic pose of the figure, along with a high score from Flynn. A "try me" button on the bottom activates the illumination feature that lasts for about 8 seconds. A nice added detail is the plastic TRON joystick on the front.

To get even closer to the figure, simply open the box from its side to reveal a TRON tube containing the figure. A clear plastic cover on the tube can be removed to get a better look at the figure, but removing the figure from the tube isn't an option.

The sculpting and paint of the figure capture the classic vintage look. There's detail, but not so much that it’s distracting. This is old 80's simplicity at its finest.

This is definitely a collector's toy and a must for fans of the original film. Spin Masters has the license for TRON Legacy AND the original TRON film but so far, this SDCC exclusive is the only vintage item on the radar. Hopefully with enough support for TRON Legacy, they will tackle more toys from the original film.
