Following our look at the Stealth Berserker (https://www.figures.com/forums/news/10978-necas-sdcc-exclusive-stealth-berserker.html), we continue with another sci-fi heavy hitter: Terminator 2's T-1000 "Liquid Metal". A favorite with fans of the series, T2 doubled the action of the original and raised the bar on special effects for the entire film industry. The spectacular effects in question stem from the jaw-dropping scenes of the indestructible T-1000 cyborg killing machine liquefying; its molten metal composition ebbing and flowing in wonderous and murderous ways.

NECA captures the look of the T-1000 in this "liquid metal" state for their Comic-Con exclusive action figure. The T-1000 "Liquid Metal" is a variant of the Series 3 T-1000 (Galleria) in stores now, the figure swapping color for a super shiny metallic paint job. This metal motif is mirrored on the packaging with both the "Terminator 2" logo and name plate stamped in reflective foil. It's a subtle touch that helps this exclusive stand out.

One of the most iconic liquid metal scenes in T2 is when the T-1000 transforms a forefinger into a long lethal dagger. This exclusive includes an interchangable right hand attachment to do just that. Other swappable parts included are: neutral left and right hands for cool running poses, pistol gripping left and right hands and a pistol. The latter can be stowed in the attached hip holster when not in use. The T-1000's head is also removeable, allowing collectors to swap it out with the colored Galleria or split-in-two Pescadero Battle Damaged figure heads, if you so desire.

Articulation is surprisingly good, letting you display the T-1000 in a variety of screen-accurate ways. Points include a ball-jointed head that allows for some nice poses with the T-1000's head tilted down - glaring forward, ball-jointed shoulders for great arm placement, swivel-hinge elbows, ball wrists, swivel waist and ball feet for better balance. There's no leg articulation, but you won't miss it; the T-1000's stance is cool and determined, just like in the film.

Speaking of legs, a nice detail added can be found on the T-1000's right foot. At first glance I thought it was a factory defect, but I smiled when I realized it's the T-1000's liquid metal pulling off the ground. Other sculpted details are very nice, including the realistic folds and wrinkles of the police uniform and amazing Robert Patrick portrait. It's cold and calculating, looking cool in the many head cocking poses you can achieve.

I've never been a huge fan of chromed-out figure exclusives, but none have made more sense than the T-1000 "Liquid Metal". The more I pick this figure up and fiddle with it, the harder it is to put down. The T-1000's shiny, articulated sculpt is mesmerizing; the screen-accurate poses awesome. Terminator fans owe it to themselves to pick this figure up.

Now that is gorgeous. One question--how's the paint holding up in the joints? Do they have enough clearance to keep rub fairly low?

Thanks for the review!

Holding up very well, in fact I thought it was actually cast in a silver plastic, but upon very close inspection - like inside the hand socket - its a light grey in there. But yeah, 'tis a strong silver paint job.
