I feel Playmates dropped the ball here on a new opportunity at Star Trek figures. Doing over their old 5″ scale lines with slightly updated bodies is redundant insofar the new figures are not that different from the old lines. I can’t see many collectors who have the old lines investing in it again. I don’t think the long-term support will be there and the lines will end with incomplete crews. They stood better to have done a 6″ scale line (which has never been done with Trek) with better sculpting & articulation, akin to the Star Wars Black Series lines, which would have attracted more collectors who are the primary consumers of Trek product. For me it’s a pass.

I prefer the smaller figures. Who wants to collect larger figures that take up even more room. I think they should have just used smaller packaging and had more interesting accessories. Also would have been cool if each figure came with a section of the bridge. Or maybe a complete set of the senior staff box set. Things like that.
