Ever since Cryptozoic Entertainment first started branching into the world of collectibles (they were and continue to be a leader in card and board games) we’ve watched with great interest as they’ve come up with unique items like Mighty Meeples, Bombshells PVCs, and so much more. At San Diego Comic-Con 2017 the Cryptozoic booth was bigger than ever and much more crowded since they were selling some very highly sought-after exclusives. We were lucky enough to get a booth tour with one of the company’s awesome reps and here’s what we learned (following along in the photo gallery):
We showed off Cryptozoic’s new Street Fighter Knockouts PVC Statues (Chun-Li, Cammy, and Sakura) in a recent review, and now those three ladies are headed into all new places with unique variants and re-colors. A black Chun-Li is an SF 30th Anniversary product at Hot Topic, while the “Player 2” versions (also on display at SDCC) don’t have an announced home just yet. Speaking of Hot Topic, Cryptozoic plans many more exclusive items with the popular chain.
Among the elite DC Comics collectibles the Joker Hand statue is arriving with a limited edition of 2000, and the sold out Harley Quinn Mugshot statue is returning with a new run featuring red and black pigtails and new graffiti on the backdrop to differentiate it from the initial limited edition version.
Something that we (and other attendees) really liked was the Lynda Carter as Wonder Woman Vinyl Figure, a fully approved venture with DC Comics coming early in 2018. It will be individually numbered with a run of 777, and Cryptozoic will offer an exclusive version with cape!
Cryptkins is an original blind box series from Cryptozoic featuring cute and stylized versions of famous monsters, legends, and other cryptozoological oddities. With a great style and built-in collectibility I can see these really taking off.
DC Pumps is a new offering capturing the essence of DC Comics superheroines and villains in show form! Especialy in person these are super cute and really well done with all sorts of in-universe details making them unique to their respective characters. These blind box pumps will be sold in stores like GameStop and big box retailers with variants and store exclusives in the future.
Teekeez is a lineup of tiki-inspired DC Comics characters, and going forward Cryptozoic is shrinking them down to an all-around better 2 1/2 inch scale (with a lowered MSRP of $9.99). Coming late this year, the first wave will consist of Joker, Batman, Superman, Harley Quinn, and Wonder Woman. A series 2 is already planned and in the works!
As we noted above the booth was slammed during SDCC by people trying to get their hands on the exclusives like the DC Bombshells Golden Goddesses, and Cryptozoic had on display their NYCC exclusives including a Lil Bombshells Lois Lane (with NYCC headline newspaper), 30th anniversary Ryu, and the Beautiful in Pink Wonder Woman, the first ever pink version of the character offered! The SDCC exclusive Golden Goddesses will also be shrunk down to “Lil” size and packed in (one per box) with 24 pack boxes of trading cards. You can pre-order these now through Diamond.
Speaking of Bombshells, Cryptozoic continues their hit lineup with Series 2, Series 2.5 (variants, new chases), and Series 3 on display along with special items like holiday exclusives (Harley Quinn Queen of Diamonds will be at Hot Topic). Similarly the Noir lineup is expanding with Supergirl at Hot Topic, Poison Ivy at ThinkGeek, etc., and the Fan Fest-exclusive Sketch variants.
And that’s not all, as Cryptozoic looks to the future with more Bombshells (including the Bruce Wayne figure), a re-launch of the DC Mighty Meeples (a particular favorite of this writer!), fun statues like the currently available stylized Batmobiles, Street Fighter in Lil versions as well as Knockouts, and much more.
