“So cute, they’re to DIE for!”

Pop Culture Shock announces that they are producing an 80’s style creature feature called Portal Popperz. The film will be funded by a Kickstarter campaign which launches Jaunary 10th.

Why a movie? PCS founder, Jerry Macaluso, began his career as a successful special effects artist and has produced a couple movies already. So when the concept for Portal Popperz came up, PCS realized it tied in perfectly to what they do… collectibles!

Not only is Pop Culture Shock seeking to make a Portal Popperz movie, but they are also looking into developing a line of figures and other types of collectibles – the first piece will be a “Reward” in the Portal Popperz Kickstarter.

“I really miss the creatures of the ‘80s. Cool rubber monsters with tons of personality,” said Macaluso. “The work Steve Johnson, Rob Bottin and Chris Walas did so well, and how films like Gremlins helped perfect the balance between horror and humor.”

Portal Popperz is love letter to films like Gremlins and Critters. In the movie, an augmented reality game called Portal Popperz has become a cultural phenomenon, and it seems like everyone has their eyes glued to their smartphones trying to catch the digital creatures. But when a motley crew of misfits discover the Popperz are spawning in the real world, it’s up to our unlikely heroes to halt their path of destruction.

The Portal Popperz Kickstarter campaign launches January 10th. A Facebook page has been set up HERE.

Heh, yeah, I always wanted some Ghoulies figures too.

And some Overlord minions figs (and an Overlord fig of course). Actually that’s what I thought this might be when I clicked on this article. At least I managed to track down the Overlord minions mini-statues that they made as a game promo, but I’d still love some figs.
