Once a collaboration with Four Horsemen Studios, The Outer Space Men are now squarely back in the hands of their creator, Mel Birnkrant (theouterspacemen.com). Originally a group of bendy action figures produced by the Colorforms Company in 1968, the imaginative sci-fi toys saw a re-birth several years ago with fully articulated figures using the Glyos joint system pioneered by Onell Design. Mel Birnkrant’s Outer Space Men continues that modern trend.

New York Comic Con 2016 offered collectors several show exclusives including Colossus Rex 2.0 ($30, pictured top) in a rare 1968 blue color scheme with gold accessories, as well as “Cosmic Radiation” (glow-in-the-dark) versions of Colossus Rex and Gamma X ($25 each).

2018 marks the 50th anniversary of The Outer Space Men, and Mel Birnkrant will be releasing numerous figures leading up to the big occasion. This November will see Cosmic Radiation releases of Orbitron, Cyclops and Gemini. Figures announced for 2017 include Horroscope, Terra Firma, and Astrodite. Two all-new astronauts will also join the gang: Luna Eclipse and Zero Gravity.
