Perhaps the most versatile fighter in the Street Fighter franchise, Ryu has the tools to fight his way out of almost any situation. His moveset is so iconic, it’s lexicon has become part of global popular culture. People who have never stepped into an arcade have heard the “Hadoken!” scream.

When development began on Street Fighter V, Capcom decided to shake things up. If they could introduce a new element to the franchise’s fighting system, it would intensify the challenge for veteran players used to meting out damage with a well-time Metsu Shoryuken combo.

Enter the V-Trigger.

Executed by pressing both Heavy buttons, the V-Trigger allows a character to perform feats that can turn the tide of battle. When activated, they are sheathed in a flow of energy tendrils until their V-Gauge is depleted. And Ryu’s is nothing short of devastating.

The Denjin Renki (“Electric Blade Refined Spirit”) electrifies Ryu’s special moves, changing the properties of everything tied to the punch buttons for as long as the trigger is active, shattering an opponent’s parries and leaving them defenseless.

“We all love Capcom’s mythology, and the Ansatsuken moveset,” says Jerry Macaluso, PCS’ founder. “The Hurricane Kick, the Dragon Punch, they are classics you can’t improve upon. Instead, what they’ve done with Street Fighter V is redefine how hardcore gamers use Ryu, giving a well-balanced character even more options. Ryu learning the Denjin Renki is like putting a 426 Hemi in a ’68 Charger: it changes something that was formidable enough already into a beast no one can compete with. We liked the challenge of representing that in physical form.”

Using the in-game character model for total accuracy, the craftspeople at Pop Culture Shock Collectibles have made their first 1:6 Ryu statue (12.5″ tall) the most imposing and powerful to date, looking more like pixels and sprites than paint and polystone. As designed by renowned Street Fighter artist Edwin Huang, his dynamic swirling base is somehow the V-Trigger made manifest.

Three versions of Ryu will be offered for pre-order beginning Monday, September 19th at 3pm PST.  They are estimated ship date 4th quarter 2017.
