    TF2010: Building Block Round Up

Bionicle, Ben 10, Hero Factory, Toy Story, more...

Toy Fair 2010 coverage brought to you by the following fine sponsors: BigBadToyStore.com, PastGenerationToys.com, and Sekaido.com (YesAnimation.com).

LEGO was on hand at Toy Fair showcasing TONS of cool new building block sets, both licensed and non. In addition to the new LEGO Games brand we announced, LEGO will roll out a host of product including:

    * MINIFIGURES: 32 never-before-seen LEGO characters will be released as two waves of 16 figures each. These will be sold individually priced at $1.99 USD. The catch is that they will be packaged in a mystery bag so you don't know which one you are getting. Great for kids wanting to collect and trade, a bummer for those just wishing to expand their collection of LEGOland denizens.

June will see the release of Series 1 (pictured top) including a crash test dummy, forester, ninja, cheerleader, skater, tribal hunter, circus clown, magician, deep sea diver, robot, nurse, caveman and astronaut. Series 2, due out in September, will consist of surfer, egyptian, jungle explorer, skier, pop star, disco stu, witch, life guard, mime artist, weight lifter, dracula, mexican, karate kid, ring master and traffic cop.

    * ATLANTIS: This new theme for 2010 was a personal favorite of mine at the show. Great sci-fi underwater designs. Out in stores now, sets include Monster Crab Clash, Wreck Raider, Guadian of the Deep, Seabed Scavenger, Typhoon Turbo Sub, Neptune Carrier and the Gateway of the Squid. August will usher in the Deep Sea Striker, Atlantis Exploration HQ and massive Portal of Atlantis playset.

    * BEN 10: The constructible action figure ("constration") category that LEGO Group pioneered gets its first licensed treatment in this line of buildable, constructible aliens based on the Ben 10 Alien Force franchise. In stores now, these include Spidermonkey, Swampfire, ChromaStone, Humungousaur, Jet Ray and Big Chill. $14.99 USD each.

    * BIONICLE: Those that feared Hero Factory would replace Bionicle fear not! Bionicle will continue for at least another year with the Bionicle All Star Collection. This series brings back the mightest Bionicle characters, including Tahu, Gresh, Takanuva, Skrall, Piraka, and Rahkshit. Each character will include a special gold piece that, once collected, turns one figure into the Golden Toa Tahu. These released last month for $7.99 USD each. This Spring will see the release of new vehicles as well as a Legends assortment.

    * HARRY POTTER: The magical adventures of Harry and the gang continue with new characters from Harry Potter: The Deathly Hollows, Part 1. Slated for release this October, these sets will include Dobby's Release, The Burrows, Quidditch Lesson, Hogwart's Express, Hagrid's Hut and Hogwart's Castle.

    * HERO FACTORY: LEGO's newest constration series. Three heroes and three rookies battle six of Von Nebula's villins. Hitting retail this August, this line wil feature Preston Stormer, Natalie Breez, William Blaze, Duncan Bulk, Mark Surge, Jimi Stringer, Xplode, Meltdown, Corroder, Thunder, Von Nebula, and Rotor. Two vehicle and figures sets, Blaze Bike and Drop Ship, will also see release this summer.

    * POWER MINERS: My nephew's favorite LEGO line, these underground drilling rigs and Lava Monsters continue in 2010 with Fire Blaster and Magma Mech in stores now and the August release of the Claw Catcher and cool prison facility, Lavatraz.

    * PRINCE OF PERSIA: Based on the upcoming Disney move, Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time, these sets are scheduled for release this April and will include Desert Attack, The Ostrich Race, Fight for the Dagger, Quest Against Time ad Battle of Alamut.

    * SPACE POLICE: The chase continues with new sets based around the classic cops and robbers in outer space theme. In stores now, sets include Raid VPR an Smash 'n' Grab. August debut the SP Undercover Cruiser, Lunar Limo and Space Police Central.

    * STAR WARS: Read our story HERE.

    * TOY STORY: In stores now, sets based on the classic Pixar film include Army Men Patrol, Woody and Buzz to the Rescue, Construct-a-Buzz, Buzz's Star Command Ship and Woody's Round Up. Three sets based on the new movie, Toy Story 3, will join the collection this May (photography was not allowed pending licensor approval).
