There are so many comedies hitting theaters and home video anymore, it's often hard to keep them straight. That said, one that you won't soon forget after seeing is Sandra Bullock and Ryan Reynolds in The Proposal. While some of it's humor isn't exactly the most original, the acting is top-notch, the story is laugh-out-loud funny.

Sandra Bullock is the angry, disgruntled and all-around p.o.ed book editor and super-boss Margaret Tate, who's wraith is the thing of legend and who's "administrative assistant," Andrew Paxton (Ryan Reynolds) lives to ensure she gets what she wants. While committed to ensuring Tate gets everything she needs to rule the book and publishing world, Paxton soon finds he's going to give Tate even more when it turns out her work visa has been denied and she's deported to Canada. In turn, Tate requires Paxton to marry her in order to keep her in the USA and ensure her publishing success continues. Of course, Paxton agrees...under one condition: he's allowed to go to his grandma's 90th birthday in his small Alaskan hometown. Of course, Tate follows along and what ensues is disturbing, heart-felt and down right hilarious.

Bullock and Reynolds hold the cast reigns to this film, while Malin Akerman, Craig T. Nelson, Mary Steenburgen and Betty White bring up the rear and play their parts perfectly. White especially makes a hilarious appearance as Paxton's 90-year old grandma and, whether she's talking about the "baby maker" blanket or dancing in the woods, she's great. Another casting worth mention comes thanks to Oscar Nuñez (The Office), who plays what seems to be the town's only waiter, stripper, and judge. It's so wrong, it's right...

The Blu-ray edition of this film includes a beautiful 1080p hi-def picture in the original 2.35:1 aspect ratio. Likewise, the English 5.1 DTS-HD Master Audio delivers dialogue, sound effects and the score well.

Special features on the Blu-ray edition include an alternate ending to the film with optional commentary with director Anne Flecter and writer Peter Chiarelli, deleted scenes (with commentary), outtakes, and a feature film commentary with both the writer and director. The second disc includes a digital copy of the film for those with a computer, iPod, or portable data device.

While I wouldn't personally call The Proposal "the year's best comedy" (though Pete Hammond did!), I would say it's well worth a watch. Reynolds continues to impress as both an action star, as well as a comedic and dramatic actor and Bullock...well...she's Miss Congeniality for goodness sake...she's great.

The Proposal is available now on DVD home video and Blu-ray hi-def wherever fine home video are sold.
