Sideshow Collectibles Exclusive 1/6 Scale TOHT

    12 inches of creepy Nazi

You can find the 1:6 Sideshow Exclusive Toht and a selection of other great Indiana Jones collectibles available to order at Sideshow Collectibles!

Of the many heroes and villains introduced throughout the course of the four Indiana Jones theatrical adventures, none is as memorable as the vile Arnold Toht. The slithery Toht was a Nazi agent tasked by Belloq to retrieve a medallion that would hopefully lead them to the location of the Ark of the Covenant. While he attempted to torture Marion Ravenwood for the location of the medallion, Indiana Jones showed up to teach him some manners. After their first scuffle, Indy eventually meets Toht again near the end of the film, when the Nazis capture him and Marion. They hold their eyes shut as the Nazis foolishly open the Ark, meeting their demise as they are melted alive.

With fans long-requesting a new Toht figure, Sideshow delivers an incredible 1:6 scale collectible complete with accessories to recreate all of your favorite moments from the film. Not only that, the exclusive version of the figure includes a 1:6 scale replica of the Ark of the Covenant to add even more display options to your Indy collection.

PACKAGING: Like most of the other Indiana Jones collectibles released by Sideshow and other manufacturers, Toht’s packaging features a cracked, stone-like box with ruins bordering the top and bottom and an overall brown color scheme. The outside of the package also features images of the figure on all sides, with additional movie images on the back. The box features a side-opening flap that reveals the figure and his accessories packaged in separate trays facing each other with The Raiders movie poster behind the trays. The interior also features a synopsis of the film as well as a bio on Toht. The exclusive Ark accessory comes packaged within the shipper box in it's own plain white box with form-fitted Styrofoam to protect the collectible.

SCULPT & ARTICULATION: The focus of the sculpting ultimately lies on the head sculpt, and unfortunately, therein lies some issues for the figure. While I think that the sculpt and figure overall captures the look of the character, I think that the final product doesn’t capture the likeness of Ronald Lacey. But a lot of the problem doesn’t lie with the sculpt, but the paint application, which I’ll get to shortly. The figure features the Sideshow 12-inch Prometheus body that includes around 30 points of articulation and allows you ample opportunity to create a variety of Toht-like poses.

PAINT & CLOTHING: Paint and Costume are two areas of the figure that I feel come up short in the quality department. If you look at photos of the prototype, you will see that the paint apps have been severely cut back, which in turn, affects the look of the figure and doesn’t compliment the sculpt like it should. Toht features several articles of clothing to complete his costume including a shirt, pants, tie, jacket, and trench coat with belt. Unfortunately, you can tell that the materials used in the prototype were of a greater quality than the final versions as evidenced by the stiffness and fit of his suit and the slightly more tight leather coat in the original promo photos. But there are a variety of small details present that still managed to impress me including the much appreciated inclusion of the Nazi party pin, something that is often removed from collectibles to avoid offense.

ACCESSORIES: If this figure excels in anything, it’s accessories. While I wouldn’t say the figure comes with an overwhelming number of items, it’s the quality things it does include that make all the difference. Not only does he include a removable hat and two sets of hands (both gloved and ungloved), he also has an extra hand featuring the scar that was burned into his hand by the Staff of Ra emblem. He can wield a hot poker, Luger pistol, or the collapsible coat hanger that Marion mistakes for some torture tool. My personal favorite accessory and most fan-requested feature is the interchangeable melting head to capture Toht’s final moments in the film. The one accessory that fails is his included removable eyeglasses. Changed from the prototype, the glasses are now a lot thicker and bulky looking, which totally changes the look of the figure when wearing them.

Included only with the exclusive version of Toht, The Ark of the Covenant display item is a hefty polystone replica of the sacred artifact. Sideshow has done an excellent job capturing not only the intricate carvings that cover it’s surface, but they also chose an appropriate paint to give it a dull gold sheen. The lid is removable and reveals a surprisingly vacant and undecorated interior. Another key feature of the Ark is the two removable polystone poles. Each pole has been wrapped in a patterned fabric to add even more realism to the piece.

PRICE & OVERALL: While the figure does have some flaws, it doesn’t make me any less excited to own another great addition to the Indiana Jones series. With the interchangeable head and awesome 1:6 Ark accessory, Toht is a must-have collectible for Indy fans of all ages. The 1:6 Sideshow Exclusive Toht (including the 1:6 Ark), which sells for $169.99, is in stock and available to order NOW while supplies last!
