Playmates announces that it has procured the master toy rights for DreamWorks Animation's Shrek Forever After, which is scheduled to be released on May 21, 2010.

Following on the heels of Shrek the Third, Shrek will return to the big screen for the fourth chapter, where he suddenly winds up a domesticated family man. Instead of scaring villagers away like he used to, he reluctantly agrees to autograph pitch forks. Longing for the days when he felt like a "real ogre," Shrek is duped into signing a pact with the smooth-talking dealmaker, Rumpelstiltskin. Shrek suddenly finds himself in a twisted, alternate version of Far Far Away, where ogres are hunted, Rumpelstiltskin is king and Shrek and Fiona have never met. Now, it's up to Shrek to undo all he's done in the hopes of saving his friends, restoring his world and reclaiming his one True Love.

For the first time ever, Playmates Toys delivers the full Shrek experience, the whole world of Shrek, his friends and adversaries, his hilarious adventures and mis-adventures through a complete "World of Shrek" toy line that captures the humor and energy that makes the Shrek franchise so popular. Hitting retail shelves May 1st, the toy line will include multiple sets of Shrek mini figures including the new ogre army; stylized and chunky swamp figures that come in ooze-filled containers and a Shrek Ogre Attack Ball. Kids will get a real treat with edible worms and bugs they create with the Shrek Bug and Grub’s activity set. Dolls, humor-filled talking plush and deluxe feature roaring Shrek will round out the line.
