New Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Marvel Comics Pins, And Much More...
Hitting up the WizKids Games booth is always a treat since we’re such big fans of their games (especially HeroClix and Star Trek Attack Wing!), and this time around we got to see the fun stuff they had on display at New York Toy Fair 2016 AND a couple of exclusive shots you won’t see anywhere else. HeroClix was well-represented in the booth with current releases like DC’s World’s Finest and Extreme HeroClix figures, but then there were the previews! First up were figures from the upcoming Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles set like the titular heroes in different incarnations, Baxter Stockman, Foot Soldiers, and more. The TMNT Mouser Mayhem Starter Set brings you the four turtles and unique maps with basic rules for learning the game and additional rules for fun scenario play like training (turtle vs. turtle), Save Splinter (defending against waves of Mousers), and Rescue April (traveling through the sewers with random terrain reveals).
Marvel Comics is getting a lot of love in HeroClix this year, and on display were some figures from the upcoming Uncanny X-Men expansion set along with its corresponding All-New X-Men Fast Forces pack featuring the young mutants pulled into the present day and the ClixFX Base pack with all new ways to display ongoing effects happening to your figures. Revealed from the main set were Storm, Magneto, Wolverine, Juggernaut, X-Force Vanisher, and more!
This year will also bring Civil War to the gaming table with the Captain America: Civil War movie starter pack and foil bags, PLUS the four-month comic-based Civil War Storyline Organized Play event. Kits for those events come in bricks with 8 boosters and a sealed pack of OP materials: maps, foil bagged randomly selected prize figures, and bounty cards that will be distributed to players and give them bonuses for taking out specific characters. Maps will be 2x3 but have printed elements to play 2x2 Battle Royales on them as well. Players will draft by faction, ensuring their bounties will target their opponents, and the grand prize OP kit will include 16 figures for all players to get something via snake draft. Oh, and that awesome Captain America and Iron Man in the iconic fighting pose? Each of those will be available singly as monthly OP prizes but also as a pair in the grand prize options!
NOTE: Packaging is still a mock up at this point.
For our exclusive reveal we got to see some of this year’s Convention Exclusives! The lineup we showed off first include single figure packs of DC’s Kingdom Come Hawkman and Marvel’s Cosmic Daredevil. Then they get crazy starting with the TMNT Turtle Van vehicle! On the DC side a bigger pack takes us back to ’66 with Surfing Batman with Shark. You’ll be able to play Batman on his own... or play him at a lower point value but your opponent gets to play the shark! And separate from that the surfboard is a removable 3D object and the shark can be played on its own... and it has the Atlantis keyword. Lastly, the Marvel HeroClix Punisher's Van set gives you the vigilante and his vehicle that can provide him with a cache of weapons and equipment. There are three flame FX bases, six 3D objects, and eight object tokens that all interact with the Van’s Weapons Dial. NOTE: All packaging and materials are mock ups at this point.
2016 will also see cool stuff happening in Star Trek Attack Wing with great expansions, the Borg Cube with Sphere Port, and OP programs. We talked to WizKids about the listings for “2016 Versions” of the U.S.S. Enterprise, Scimitar, and Negh’Var. Those will be reprints of the original ships with updated paint applications and metallic details along with some updated and reprinted cards. Sounds cool!
Lastly, WizKids is branching out with Marvel Comics metal pins. These high quality wearable collectibles will be blind boxed with a rarity scheme for the thrill of the hunt.
