Straight out of the summer film STAR TREK: INTO DARKNESS comes the Klingon Bird-of-Prey Star Trek KRE-O building set. This building set is compatible with LEGO and other similar types of construction blocks but are Hasbro’s very own brand. The Klingon BOP is a middle of the line set that includes the one vehicle and four minifigures called KREONS: Captain Kirk in Civilian Gear, Uhura, and two Klingon warriors. If you’re keeping track of the KREON blind pack figures, yes, this is the same Klingon figure found in that assortment.
The Bird-of-Prey is a nice ship that is relatively easy to build (236 pieces) and features an opening cockpit and a door flap towards the rear of the ship. Another cool feature is LightTech, a specially designed KRE-O block that is stackable but lights up with a push of a very small button. This sort of thing works great on the inside of the ship and adds some light into the otherwise typical toy space craft. The only downside is that it doesn’t stay on when not pushed so it’s difficult to photograph. A minor issue if there is one.
The ship itself is definitely a lot of fun and features adjustable wings, much like a Star Wars Shuttle Tyderium. The wings do a pretty decent job of staying where you position them but there are angles that don’t stick as well as the rest.
The KREONs included are all the same basic figure with a few minor differences. Regular human figures are exactly the same (both men AND women) with the exception of the wigs. The outfits and facial expression is also what individualizes them. The Klingons have a unique headsculpt but unfortunately do not have removable helmets. Each figure comes with a weapon and features about 8 points of articulation.
You can find Star Trek KRE-O at your local Toys’R’Us stores or online retailers such as Amazon for about $25. Look for other sets and the individual blind bags now!
