Never out of fashion is the popular Disney-Pixar film Monsters, Inc. and with a prequel, Monsters University, heading to theaters this Summer, merchandise for this now franchise is at an all time high. Hot Toys, makers of your favorite 1/6th scale movie characters are also really into little Cosbabies as well! These figures, standing about 3-inches tall represent your favorite Monsters, Inc characters in baby form. I suppose you can say that these toys are prequels to the prequel, and in that case, Monsters Preschool can be played at your home with this complete set of Monsters, Inc. Mini Cosbaby figures, available in April.

The set includes six figures, two of which are variants:

    -James P. Sullivan (Sulley)
    -Mike Wazowski (Mike)
    -Boo (Monster version)
    -Randall
    -Boo
    -Mike (Diver version)

That’s right, it’s a lot of cosbaby action in this set but it’s certainly easier than buying them individually, which is also an option. The whole set may cost you $70 while individually they should run about $12 each.

The packaging for the complete set is colorful and nicely done. It’s a simple presentation with all figures lined up in a window for you to display in package if you so wish. The door pattern from the introduction of the film is presented along with caution tape with the code “2319”, which if you’ve seen the film, means it’s really bad news, and rightfully so as Boo is included twice in this set.

All of the figures are about 3” tall, with Sulley being the tallest. Boo, surprisingly towers larger than Mike Wazowski, making this a pretty odd looking collection. I would very much prefer her be an accessory. It just looks weird, frankly.

The sculpts are what you’d expect if you’ve been collecting cosbabies. They’re just freaking cute. That’s the only way to describe them. They’re more like the line drawing versions of the characters than the hyper-detailed CG film versions.

Sulley isn’t your standard Cosbaby but he sure is cute. Randall is also quite a different figure all together. The multi-limbed lizard has four legs and four arms, but not very poseable.

Mike is pretty much an eye ball with arms and legs, but he feels like a Cosbaby at least. The differences between the two Mike’s are pretty obvious. Diver version has oven mits, flippers, and a large one-eyed scuba mask glued in place, just like in the scene where Boo runs amuck in their apartment. The differences between Boo and Monster Boo are more drastic as they only share the human face element. Standard Boo is the only normal Cosbaby in this set while Monster Boo is very much a standalone figure with limited articulation, much like Sulley and Randall.

Paint on these little guys is clean for the most part with appropriate details added on when necessary. Sulley’s spikes down his tail are all painted in as is the pattern on Randall’s back. Even Boo’s tentacles have the necessary paint details applied. The expressions on their face are for the most part painted on with the exception of Randall. Both Boo and Mike variants sport different expressions so there’s at least that going for them.

Articulation may vary on these figures as they aren’t the usual cosbaby molds. Sulley has neck, shoulders, and that’s it. If his legs move, mine are pretty good and stuck. Both Mike figures have shoulders, wrists, and legs only. Boo has neck shoulders, wrists, feet while her “Monster disguise” version has arms and maybe legs… as they’re stuck as can be too. Randall has neck, two arms, and a tail articulated.

There IS only one accessory included and it belongs to standard Mike. He has the Monsters, Incorporated safety helmet! The blue helmet has the Monsters, Inc. “M” painted on the front and is molded to fit onto Mike’s left horn.

If you’re a fan of Disney-Pixar, Monsters, Inc. and Cosbabies, then these are right up your alley and will be available very soon. My hope is that they make more of the monsters!
