    WONDERCON13: DC Collectibles

    DC Rules WonderCon...

WonderCon returned to Anaheim for the second straight year this past weekend, and it’s pretty safe to say that DC Comics and Warner Bros. were the dominant parties. From the DC booth front and center in the exhibit hall to the Superman: Unbound screening, Arrow panel, and more, it’s clear which company made the convention a priority, and it was appreciated by the attendees. Upon entering the exhibit hall, the first things most people saw were huge displays of DC characters hanging from the ceiling, notably Green Lantern, Batman and Robin, Wonder Woman, Flash, and Aquaman. Below them was the DC Comics booth where all sorts of fun happened.

On side was a space for signings, filled at various times by some of the most popular writers and artists in the business. Freebies surrounded the booth with the usual assortment of pins and other fun items. Taking up a prominent position were two stations where attendees could try out the upcoming Injustice video game, and to no one’s surprise there was always a long line for them. Meanwhile, the center of the booth held toys and statues!

Mostly the same stuff we saw a few weeks ago at Toy Fair (see HERE), DC Collectibles’ display let the convention-going public get a good look at some of their coolest upcoming products. A Superman-themed display held the Lee Bermejo and Frank Miller Superman statues as well as the Man of Steel Superman, Zod, Jor-El, and Kaora 1:6 Icon Statues (with their eerily lifelike face sculpts) as well as the smaller 1:12 Superman Vault Icon Statue. Next up were Injustice 3 ¾ inch 2-packs featuring Green Arrow vs. Deathstroke, Wonder Woman vs. Solomon Grundy, Flash vs. Raven, and Cyborg vs. Harley Quinn. From the New 52 action figure lineup were Martian Manhunter, Green Arrow, Green Lantern Simon Baz, and the upcoming 2-pack of Flash and Vibe. A shelf of behemoths held the Justice League line Darkseid back to back with Arkham City Solomon Grundy, and it was a wonder the glass didn’t collapse. The final display case held the WonderCon DC exclusives (3 ¾ Guy Gardner and Larfleeze, Aardman Batman and Robin, and comics), plus the soon to be released 1:6 Oliver Queen Icon Statue from Arrow!
