    TF13: Underground Toys

Great Doctor Who And Star Wars Products From Across The Pond...

Best known for bringing Doctor Who toys and specialty items to the United States, Underground Toys has a fantastic stable of fun Who, Star Wars, and Ghostbusters products. At Toy Fair they had a large display area showing off some of the great toys and collectibles on deck for 2013, and we even got sneak peeks at stuff they couldn't show yet.

2013 is the 50th anniversary of Doctor Who on BBC, so expect a ton of new toys, novelties, kitchen items, and everything else from the British classic. While 50 is normally represented by gold, show producer Steven Moffat prefers chrome, so don’t expect a lot of the yellow stuff. Anniversary items include all of the ceramics (mugs, tea pots, etc.), new clock designs (11 Doctors, aliens), and a new Character Building set of 11 Doctors in new outfits! Other new 2013 items including paint kits featuring ceramic TARDIS and Daleks, new Dalek figural mugs, lots of plush toys in various sizes with lights and sounds (Daleks, TARDIS, new Matt Smith 11th Doctor), Sonic Screwdrivers (including a new display assortment of the best selling versions), figural keychains (including K-9, Dalek, and TARDIS at Hot Topic), the re-release of R/C Daleks, new packaging for the Character Building sets, and more!

In Underground Toys’ other lines look for Ghostbusters mugs, keychains, cell phone covers, and plush toys. Star Wars will also have more plush figures including Savage Oppress and a really cute Princess Leia, plus plush and voice keychains.

Behind the scenes, here are some hints at what more is to come later this year and in 2014. Doctor Who is adding a new 3 ¾ inch figure series, which at the beginning at least will focus on the current Doctor, his companion, major aliens in the show, and an in scale TARDIS. Meanwhile, Underground will continue the 5 inch series too with figure two-packs of Doctors and aliens that come with cardboard dioramas. A large Dalek figure will come in two hot new decos: one in the Union Jack and the other in the Stars and Stripes! Plushes on the way include K-9, and a Weeping Angel in multiple sizes. In addition to re-released sets with new packaging designs the Character Building line will add two playsets: the town of Mercy and Asylum of the Daleks. Other products include iPhone cases with alien designs and slogans from the show, more keychains, a TARDIS jewely box, and Mr. Potato Heads. Finally, Star Wars will see more plushes including Jabba and Tauntaun, and there will be a new line of products from Mortal Instruments: City of Bones.
