The Captain Brings More DC & Marvel Characters, Cool Stuff On The Way...
Round 2’s Captain Action is a classic retro toy line bringing the large scale action figures of the good old days back into the hands of collectors with modern high quality standards, solid figures, and fun costumes and accessories. At Toy Fair we got to learn where the line is going and what the guys at Round 2 have in store for the mighty Captain.
First off, we got to see a mock up of the packaging for the upcoming DC Batman set. They’re taking lots of time to make sure everything is perfect, and the artwork on the box looks really nice. The DC wave is planned to include Superman, Batman, and Joker, with additional costume and accessory elements included with those three to create your own Aquaman! Meanwhile on the Marvel side Iron Man (with separate cowl , 60s “horned” faceplate, and comic book inspired face) and Wolverine are on their way in late Spring, and additional pieces with these figures will complete your Hawkeye “Build An Avenger.” Looking to the future, Round 2 has tons of ideas for more DC and Marvel characters. One of the most interesting developments is a Lady Action in the works for 2014. Based on that body the sky is the limit on female comic book characters they can make!
Another big announcement from Round 2 is that they’re having a huge sale in Toys R Us right now. Starting this week, figure prices are slashed from $29.99 to $14.99, making this the perfect time to pick up those figures you may be missing, or to start your collection.
Round 2 will also be releasing a new variant on the classic character with a Mission 013 (for “2013”) Captain Action. This figure will have a new costume featuring a pleather-like material for the black sections. Also coming soon are new slimline “coffin” boxes for Captain Action that you can display open or closed. Coming late in 2013 these will also have a lower price point.
Finally, Captain Action is expanding into other media with an animated series by G7 and character concepts by Don Templeton, a sequel to the pulp novel, all new products from Titan Merchandise (retro t-shirts, ID cases, coffee mugs), and a comic series by Dynamite Comics. 2013 and 2014 promise to be big years for the Captain!
