REVIEW: Sideshow 1:6 Star Wars COMMANDER BACARA

    Clone #1138 Reporting For Duty...

Commander Bacara is in-stock and available for order through Sideshow: HERE. He is priced at $134.99.

Continuing on the successes of the Star Wars saga and the Clone Wars cartoon series, Sideshow delivers its latest 1/6th scale Clone Trooper to eager fans: Commander Bacara, as seen in Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith. Bacara, unbeknownst to most fans, was given the numerical designation 1138, a popular in-joke with nearly all Lucasfilm properties. He also fought alongside General Ki-Adi-Mundi on the planet Mygeeto and it’s no secret by now what Commander Bacara and his Galactic Marines did to the Jedi when Palpatine declared war on them with Order 66!

Bacara is still available for order on www.sideshowtoy.com for $134.99. There is an exclusive being offered as well with a limited edition display stand with special base art. The base art mirrors the colors of Commander Bacara’s modified helmet and while it looks cool, it isn’t a make it or break it variation for me or for most consumers. The exclusive, however is limited to 1,000 units if you’re so interested. The standard version should be in larger numbers and is also available for the same price.

The packaging for Commander Bacara and all previous Star Wars 12” figures is pretty much the same as you’ve seen, with a magnetic flap that opens up to reveals two different sections; one for all of the accessories and one for the figure. On the inner box, Sideshow has provided an extensive back story for the “Millitaries of Star Wars” as well as a bio of Bacara and a list of his accessories. While many may skip reading all the information provided, I for one am glad that they’re still there. Within the box, the accessories and figure are stored in plastic trays with covers to keep all of its contents where they need to be. It really is the ideal box format as the figure is very well protected, you have plenty of information and there’s photography of the figure itself as well as stills from the film.

What separates Bacara from the rest of the clones is his modified phase two helmet with the flaps. This unique styling may be necessary in a snowy environment as we’ve seen Captain Rex in a similar get-up when he was visiting an icy locale in Clone Wars. The rest of the sculpt is essentially the standard full body armor with a revised shoulder pauldron, fabric chest pauldron, and a slightly modified detailing on the back of the armor. The fabric chest pauldron is somewhat of a disappointment as it’s a part that I never expected to be “fabric” to begin with. It should also be a piece of armor colored differently than it is presented here.

The paint and details are applied as well as you’d expect with clean lines and battle scarring to enhance the “used” look that Star Wars has lovingly established. The helmet itself though took a wrong turn somewhere as it is colored slightly off model. The top of the helmet should be the same hue as the rest of the helmet while the cheek flaps should have remained the darker shade. I’m not entirely certain what happened for such large discrepancies to get passed Lucasfilm or even Sideshow for that matter but in the long run, for a figure that only appears for less than a few seconds, many may not even notice or care. But along the same argument, we are paying a hefty price on mostly used parts so it is unfortunate when a figure isn’t perfect by the time it arrives at our door.

Like all Clone Troopers released prior, there’s a good handful of accessories to add to the fun. There are a total of 8 hands to swap out for you to find the perfect display. I personally don’t care for most of these hands as I prefer my clone holding his weapon and ready to fire. But I suspect the troop builders out there appreciate the variety that can be done. Bacara also comes with two pairs of feet, one pair for standing and a second pair for action poses or kneeling poses.

Bacara also comes with a BlasTech DC-15A Long Range Blaster Rifle, Blastech DC-15S Blaster Carbine, and BlasTech DC-17 pistol. The sculpt and detail of these weapons are top notch. Lastly, there’s the extendable figure stand. If you get the Sideshow exclusive, you’ll get a 21st Nova Corp Galactic Marines base instead of the standard Star Wars logo figure stand.

Articulation is exactly what you’d expect if you’re familiar with Sideshow 1/6th figures. Underneath all the armor and body suit, Bacara has over 30 points of articulation to pose to your heart’s content.

While there are some design flaws overall with Commander Bacara, I think Star Wars fans will enjoy Commander Bacara regardless. He’s still a clone commander and will look badass in your display.
