Sony Pictures has successfully rebooted the Spider-Man franchise with the new The Amazing Spider-Man motion picture but there’s one scene you won’t find in the film but rather in the toy aisles. Mega Bloks, maker of great building sets for Halo, Power Rangers and other hot licenses, have stepped up to create clever toys that may have been had The Amazing Spider-Man been a cartoon series for the younger demographic. The Bridge Showdown is just one of the larger scale Spider-Man building sets from Mega Bloks and comes with both Spider-Man and Lizard figures, Spider Jeep, and a Lizard Attack Walker.

The main draw for owning many of these sets are the micro-figures, especially if you’re a collector of them like me. Here with the Bridge Showdown, you get both the Lizard and a Spider-Man. If you already own the Spider-Man Speeder (read our review HERE) then you might think to yourself that you already own a Spider-Man, but they’re different enough. The Spidey included with this Bridge Showdown is Battle Damaged, so make sure you’re getting the version you want if you’re a stickler for that sort of thing. Each other large set comes with a variation of Spider-Man and Lizard or one or the other.

The micro-figures are pretty nicely sculpted and detailed, with an amazing amount of articulation for a figure of this scale. They’re roughly as tall as He-Man’s boot (Masters of the Universe Classics) but have twelve points of articulation! The arms, head, legs all can pop on and off so if you want to swap parts to make a crazy Spider-Lizard-Man, you by all means can.

Articulated joints include neck, arms, elbows, wrists, waist, hips, knees, and if you’re the Lizard, you have a 13th joint with the tail. Not bad for figures as big as your thumb! This Spider-Man also comes with a web shooter accessory to put in his hands, it makes it look like he’s shooting his web.

This set comes with two vehicles, one for each character: Spider Jeep and the Lizard Attack Walker. The walker is a pretty interesting contraption that has no wheels and no legs, but it does have two neon tails. I’m not exactly sure how it’s supposed to move but it’s a toy so do whatever you want! I’ll pretend it hovers... despite being called a “walker”.

The cool factor of the Lizard Attack Walker are the arms. One arm is heavy artillery, the other is a claw. The instructions tell you which side they go on but you can easily swap them if you wish (the box art is swapped). On the very top of the walker is a firing missile launcher.

There’s a cage that lifts up to insert the Lizard at the helm. Not exactly a safe machine since he’s fully exposed to gunfire. But kind of neat as it has a mech-warrior vibe to it. There is of course a hole in the back for his tail to go through. Lizard has thought it through.

The Spider-Man Jeep is about the same size as the Speeder if you own that. Spider-Man can be inserted in comfortably under his removable web canopy. The jeep has working tires and includes some decals for the hood. I found an extra Spider-Man decal and Mega Bloks decal so I went ahead and used them too for good old fashioned product placement.

Building these vehicles takes time but if you give yourself ample space and good lighting, it’s a relaxing way to spend an afternoon. The colored instruction sheet is most helpful but it’s certainly to your advantage to organize the 250 pieces before you start.

While the Bridge Showdown never existed quite this way in the film, these are fun toys for kids and the micro figures are really awesome if you’re a Spider-Man toy fan. I would definitely pick one or more up if I were you. This set should be available now at all toy retailers for between $20-25.
