Fans celebrated the comeback of a classic - Captain Action - at San Diego Comic-Con by packing Room 24ABC for the anticipated Captain Action Panel. Moderated by Ed Catto (Captain Action Enterprises), the hour-long event showcased the action figure's triumphant return with a look at Capatin Action's toys - new and upcoming, comic, all-new pulp novel (read our story HERE) and most exciting of all, the announcement that an animated series is in the works. The latter is still in early development, but plans call for Captain Action to lead an adventurous group including Lady Action and Action Boy. Captain Action: The Animated Series will span the world, with the super team fighting the forces of evil (and Dr. Evil) in Indiana Jones-like globetrotting missions. As mentioned, the project is still in early development, but the prospect of Captain Action expanding into new territory is exciting news for the license and its legion of fans.

The return of Captain Action's nemesis - Dr. Evil - was also celebrated, news that the soon-to-be-released figure will receive his own comic. Fans left the panel with their very own squishy "brain" to mark the occasion. Dr. Evil (with 3 interchangeable brains!), along with new Thor and Loki Marvel Costume Sets, are scheduled to hit retail this August. As with past releases, the Loki and Thor sets will ship as two versions: "basic" to be available at Toys"R"Us, and specialty store "deluxe" which will continue the Hawkeye Avenger Build-A-Costume program. Collect all 6 Marvel Costume Sets to create your very own Hawkeye outfit!

Moving forward, the panel highlighted holiday plans with the release of three new Captain Action sets. As reported in our pre-SDCC story HERE, these will include Captain Action on his first “Special Mission": Arctic Adventurer Captain Action. This all-new "core" figure refreshes the look of our hero with a customized white and blue permafrost insulated suit, white gloves and white boots. On shelves this October priced at a MSRP of $34.99.

Also look for a new “Classic Cover Series,” Captain America and Thor. These Captain Action costume sets feature variations of the “standard” superhero look that graced the covers of their corresponding comic books in the past. For example, a bearded Thor and a Captain America Shield with extra stripes. Each set will include four comic book cover cards that show the character variation. MSRP will be approximately $24.99. All three of these new items will be offered as basic sets only and available at both mass merchandisers, such as Toys"R"Us, and hobby shops.

Captain Action mania wasn't confined to just the panel. On the massive convention floor, fans flocked to the Action Figure Xpress booth to grab the limited edition show exclusive: Capitano in Azione, a reproduction of the rare Italian version of Captain Action (see our story HERE). A hit with collectors, this exclusive quickly sold out at Comic-Con, proving that Captain Action, err, Capitano in Azione still has what it takes to be a hot sought-after collectible!
