What do characters from DC Comics, Transformers, Star Wars, and Hello Kitty have in common? They’re all immortalized in unique USB flash drive form by Mimoco as Mimobots! And after two sets of figures focusing on Batman and Green Lantern (see our reviews HERE and HERE) Mimoco returns to DC with four all new drives. DC Universe celebrates Superman X MIMOBOT and The Flash X MIMOBOT, while from the new film Dark Knight Rises there’s Batman and Bane (See HERE, a San Diego Comic-Con exclusive). Today we’ll be taking a look at one Mimobot from each series: The Flash and Batman DKR!

MIMOBOTS surround high quality USB drives with a firm plastic shell in the general shape of a tall-headed humanoid. At about 2.5 inches tall and 1 inch wide, they’re the perfect size for travel and use, while at the same time being fun collectibles. The beauty of the MIMOBOT is its simplicity, and the “sculpt” is limited to the general soft body shape, stumpy arms, and optional head decorations (some even have hairpieces that fit over the main body). Pop off the top of a MIMOBOT’s head to reveal the USB port (utilizing high speed USB 2.0 and fully Mac/PC compatible), and secure it again with a solid snap. Most MIMOBOTs are available in your choice of capacities: 2GB, 4GB, 8GB, and 16GB. Mimoco even goes a step further by offering exclusive pre-loaded “Mimory” including fun wallpapers, icons, and more.

All DC Mimobots come packaged in the same style box, tall and narrow with an open window to see the drive. Flash’s DC Universe box is bright blue with white lettering. The series logo appears at the top, while next to the Mimobot cut out is a starburst pattern that draws in the eye. All of the pertinent info is down at the bottom, while a sticker at the right tells you the storage capacity.

The back of the box shows off some other Mimobots on the market with a note at the top to “Collect Them All!” The insert behind the Flash has a Daily Planet collage, and if you unfold it you’ll find a fun image of him with Superman! For DKR, Mimoco went with something appropriately darker on the same style packaging. The black box with white lettering has a Dark Knight Rises movie logo on the front panel as well as a “LTD EDITION” notation at the very top. The “8 GB” on this box appears in a yellow circle that stands out from the black and white palette. The back of the box also has the same layout, and this time it prominently advertises DKR’s Batman and Bane.

There have been several characters called Flash over the years, from Golden Age Jay Garrick to John Fox the Flash of the future. Mimoco’s choice of superspeedster is none other than Wally West, the Silver Age Flash who took on the mantle from his predecessor in 1986. Dressed in a full-body red suit with chest logo and yellow lightning bolt details and earpieces, the Flash Mimobot also has detailed comic-style musculature. While his costume looks very similar to the previous Flash’s, West can be identified by a couple of notable details like his green eyes and the angled lightning on his “belt.” Of course, his head (the drive’s cap) is completely covered by the red cowl of his costume.

And while Flash is bright and shiny, the Dark Knight Rises’ Batman is somber and dark. Christian Bale’s Bruce Wayne in Christopher Nolan’s films is a gritty, realistic hero with a high tech armored suit equipped with all sorts of cool gadgets. The Batman Mimobot takes this design and shrinks it into a cute little package. The Dark Knight’s gray and black suit has a ton of painted detail with panels along with the Bat symbol on his chest and of course his intricate gold utility belt. Batman’s head utilizes the Mimobot cap with “ears” to represent the Bat ear tips of his cowl. Wayne’s exposed face under said cowl is stern and focused, with his dark eyes peering into the hearts of cowardly criminals.

    DKR Wallpapers

Once you’re done playing with your Mimobots, you can also plug them into your computer! And when you do, you get not only high quality USB drives, but also fun “Mimory” components that let you customize your computer with exclusive DC Universe and Dark Knight Rises content. Each drive comes with content broken down into three categories. Avatars give you images to represent you online (Bane and Batman for DKR, and Flash, Superman, and their logos for DC Universe).

    Flash Icons

Icons presents you with images including character art, mini Mimobots, logos, vehicles, and more that you can use to decorate your drives and folders. Finally, the Wallpapers folder has plenty of silly and fun images of the Mimobots in action in sizes designed for mobile devices, iPads, and all shapes and sizes of computer screens!

Mimobots are great, and Mimoco has even come up with the perfect combination of making them portable and even more cute, the Spacesuit protoHoodie! Available in black or white, the Hoodies enclose your characters in soft fabric while providing a clear vinyl window so you can see their faces. They zip up in the back to hold Mimobots securely and have a clip for attaching to your keychain, backpack, or anything else!

The DC Universe Flash Mimobot is now available now in 4, 8, 16, 32, and 64 GB (along with fellow Superman release) on Mimoco.com. The Dark Knight Rises Batman is also out now, limited to 8, 16, 32, and 64 GB varieties. If you’re interested in his nemesis Bane you’ll have to check out Mimoco’s booth at San Diego Comic-Con this week. And you’d better hurry because there are only 500 of them and it’s bound to be a popular exclusive. Mimobots are great for toy collectors and casual fans of the characters since everyone can use a USB drive!
